your post sent me on a search for yogurt and cheese making. I found this site that explains just about everything about it. it might help to explain some things. : )

I just bought some non-fat organic greek yogurt to make yogurt.. Got it at Tom Thumb. The flavored yogurts that this brand makes are yummy, so I'm hoping for a great home-made yogurt using this as starter.. oh, and it has FIVE cultures in it.

It sounds to me like the milk mixture is getting too hot. Try using a heating blanket to maintain temp instead of crockpot. Can still put it into the insert, though, assuming it is ceramic.

I've always wanted to try making homemade yogurt but I'm so intimidated by it.

hmmmm i make mine the same way, except i use full fat raw milk, & mine never turns out grainy. maybe use more fat in the recipe & see if it turns out different.

Ooooo! I've just GOTTA work up the courage to make yogurt! My 2 yo DD just LOVES yogurt and homemade would be AWESOME!
