Re: Does your school district offer free preschool/pre-K?

In our area, it's called More at Four and it's only for children deemed "at risk" of not succeeding in kindergarten. BUT the things that qualify as "at risk" are very subjective. Like having a single parent, or parent in the military, or below a certain income level, or being of any race other than white qualifies.

I wish we had one here , I mean we have headstart and thats free but we definately dont qualify for that and most "preschools" around are on average 150+ a WEEK part time .... BUT we got lucky and got ds in the church preschool up the road from the house and its only 195 a month for mon-fri 9-12:30 .. although he is taking today off recovering from the last ear pains from his ear infection :/

I purposely didn't put a "low-income" option. I wanted to see who had one that any kid, regardless of background, could go to simply because they live in the district.

We have free pre-k in Florida and it's awesome. We can go anywhere in our county - not just within our school district - and we have a choice between private and public, church, etc. Each school sets its own schedule but every child gets the same number of overall hours. You can even switch schools if the one you choose doesn't work out for whatever reason (I know because I had to do it two days after enrolling DD).

Re: Does your school district offer free preschool/pre-K?

We have pre-k for children with special needs who need that boost to hopefully get them up to being ready to start kindergarten. There are also head start type programs for at risk and income qualifying children.

Our children attended a private preschool. At 3 years old they did 2 mornings a week and at 4 years old they did 3 mornings a week. Cost wasn't too bad - the highest was about $175/month. It's a very popular program and new enrollees have to be waiting in line hours before open enrollment begins (not quite camping out the night before, but still they need to be there before it opens in order to get a slot).

The school has a free preK program. Between that and headstart almost all of the 4 yos are in some sort of program.

Ours has a pre-k program that is free if you are referred through early intervention or have a documented identified "need or delay" the classes are about 50% kids with an identified need/delay and the other 50% are "typical" peers and they get in by a lottery system and have to pay on a sliding scale based on income.

We do have head start but you have to qualify for that. The public district does have scholarships. We got a full scholarship for DS last year and we have a greatly reduced tuition this year.

Re: Does your school district offer free preschool/pre-K?

I'm not sure about preschool, but there is a free pre-k program for those who qualify (low income and English as a second language). We do not qualify so we are having to pay to send DS to a private pre-k
