Re: Baby name help - Biblical names

Oh, I know a woman who's daughters are Shekinah Glory and Harmony Faith. They're not exactly biblical, but spiritual. Nineveh was a town, but it would make a very pretty name. Also, you could do a little word play and name her Merry. People would pronounce it Mary, but Merry means happy. Timbrel and Temple would be pretty too.

Another vote for Selah

Obviously, I'm a fan of Rebekah.

Shekinah is the ONLY name on my list that DH likes. I love that name!!!

Okay, so I keep mentioning my "list." But I didn't want to post it here because it would seem like I've narrowed it down to a few dozen names. But I haven't! And I love hearing everyone's ideas. LOVE!

My dd's are Elisha and Bethany.
The other ones I can think of, I'm sure are in your book. Ruth, Naomi, Rachel...

Girls names are sooooo hard in this family. Good thing we only have one girl.

All of our children are Biblical. DD is Ellianah and I LOVE it.

I also like Elizabeth and Hannah and Rebekah

I know a little girl named Micah which is cute but i like the more feminine names

I dont know one Joy who is nice or joyful

Re: Baby name help - Biblical names

I knew a girl growing up whose name was Maranatha ("Our Lord has come" or "come, O Lord") -- very pretty, I always thought.

"Jesse" (masc.) means "gift," maybe Jessica? Kind of common, I know.

I like Esther (star), Eve ("to breathe" or "to live"), Ruth (friend), Magdelene, Martha (also a family name)

Here's some less common Biblical names from behindthename.com (one of my personal fave name websites!) :

Adah: Means "adornment" in Hebrew
Elisheba: form of Elizabeth
Jedidah: Means "beloved" in Hebrew
Jemima: Means "dove" in Hebrew
Joanna: Fem. form of John, "YAHWEH is gracious"
Micaiah: Means "who is like YAHWEH?" in Hebrew
Phoebe: Latinized form of the Greek name Φοιβη (Phoibe), which meant "bright, pure"
Susanna: "lotus"
Talitha: Means "little girl" in Aramaic
Tirzah: From the Hebrew name תִּרְצָה (Tirtzah) meaning "favourable"
Zibiah: Means "roe, deer" in Hebrew
Zillah: Means "shade" in Hebrew

I love names and meanings... as you can probably tell!!
I'm like you-- I start with a HUGE long list, and DH scratches most of them off... and we choose from what is left!!

Re: Baby name help - Biblical names

I just remembered another uncommon one, friends of ours named their baby Dara, (pronounced DAH-RA) which is mentioned somewhere in the bible. It is Hebrew and I think it means nugget of wisdom.

That's funny because that is where it came from here, too. Dh spit it out and told me that God gave him that name. Who am I to argue against that???

I also love Jordan (river Jesus was baptised in) and JoHanna meaning God is gracious.

SO many cute names here!!! I am going to bookmark this one, because my Rebekah will need a middle name.
