Re: Flats Picture Thread

It amazes me how many different ways a flat can be folded. The basic premise is the same, but I guess we all make little changes that work for us. Here is how I do it:

This is LL flat. I originally took these pics to show how I pin my flats. I always start with a hemmed edge on the top left. First I fold the top corner down.

Then I fold the sides in. The top ends up being the front of the diaper. I have started tapering it in a little, so basically you can fold these corners down and in to make the front a little narrower.

Now it is kind of like a prefold folded just perfectly for my little guys size.

Then I just fold like I would a prefold (except now I jellyroll PF's but that is a different thread/tut, lol). I do make a little lip on the back end to get a better fit and I do not do that with prefolds.

And here is me pulling the wings out and pinning.

It usually comes out a lot neater but we tried to do two tuts while dh played photographer and I think I was feeling the pressure.

I love how trim that modified neat fold goes on!
It always ends up as "diaper shorts" on my ds though.
That's not a horrible thing, I guess!

Try the kite fold and jelly roll the legs REALLY snug. My 2.5 yo wild boy wears only flats and they stay put with only this fold. Everything else falls off like that lol.

That's usually our "go to" fold.

Re: Flats Picture Thread

I have a little issue...maybe someone on this thread can answer... I just bought flats to fold into my covers. I washed on hot and dried...did this 3 times. there is no water beading off. It absorbs right away. In fact, when I took them out of the package they were absorbing, not beading at all. They are osocozy unbleached flats. I put them in my chelory cover and in 30 minutes her pants were SOAKED! I mean like, "Did I forget to put a diaper back on you?" soaked. So what did I do wrong? They have never leaked with my bamboo inserts. I did not change any setting on the OS cover.

I am using it in a weehugger and Chelory covers. Here is how I folded it...

1. fold in half
2. fold sides in like a prefold
3. fold one end up to desired length

If I fold in half and then in half again it is too short length wise.

Please help me mamas!

Re: Flats Picture Thread

The osocozy are a smaller flat in comparison to some of the other brands. A lot of mamas need to put a doubler into the mix, in order to have enough absorbency. We like preemie prefolds here, or something hemp, under the flat, might work better for you.
Maybe some pics would help, but it sounds like it may just be an absorbency issue.

Re: Flats Picture Thread

I dyed my LL flats last weekend and I LOVE how they turned out.

What did you use to dye them? I was thinking of dying mine with Dylon. I used it for my prefolds and they came out SO pretty and the colors are so crisp!

I used Dylon. Two flats for each packet and when they were done I tossed in two more flats in the old water to get the lighter shades.
