Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

I had it done with my last #4.
Didn't really hurt and didn't do anything either.

Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

Good question~ I'm due July 3rd and I have my OB appointment this Wednesday--they're going to FINALLY check fro diallation and engagement, etc. I'm actually kind of hoping that they'll strip the membranes... but I doubt it. Is it weird to ask for it? I mean, my OB hasn't even given me a guess as to how big my boy is.... but all's I know is that my belly is HUGE!!

Good luck!

Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

The pain level must be dependent upon WHO you have. My Dr. put it very deep and for about 2 minutes went back and forth and round and round with I think three fingers. It made me cry. And I am pretty good with pain. I had my son with nothing so...???

Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

I had it done at 40w, then at 41w and then in the L&D by my midwife.. I kept having contractions and lost my plug but no baby.. I had contractions I thought were real but the midwife had said I had an irritable uterus from the stripping.. urgh.. lol

That said it didnt hurt me at all! I would do it again when I go overdue next time

I had it done with DS and it didn't do anything but make me bleed. It was uncomfortable, not really painful but I bled for 2 days afterward.

Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

Thanks, ladies. I really hope this works for me! 2 wks of contractions, cramping, nausea, and back aches are getting to me. I want her OUT! It didn't really hurt to have the OB do it. From what she said, it sounded like it was already separating, but she just finished it. I'm debating trying to find an acupuncturist in the area. I know there's a place that does acupressure, but I have no clue if that would work.

Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

I had it done with DS, and it didn't so much hurt, it just felt creepy. Like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. I still get the chills thinking of that sensation....As for whether or not it helped... I was already dilated to a 4 and had been having contractions. They scheduled induction for the next morning, I had hard contractions all night but not regularly, and delivered DS within 4 hours of starting induction. I had already progressed on my own, so I don't know if it actually helped or not. I second what PP said, babies are gonna come when they're gonna come, so whaddya do?

Re: Who's had their membrane stripped?

I asked with both pregnancies. Even though I saw the exact same dr's & nurses...they were like night & day with each child. With #1, they were all laid back and I could pretty much get what I asked for (within reason). I requested induction with #1 (i was stupid, don't ask) and they didn't have a problem at all...I asked them to strip my membranes and no biggie. They did it at 2 different appts. Never did anything and I ended up being 2cm upon induction. I didn't get very far with pitocin alone either, so I don't think he was ready (although he was fully cooked and healthy...i don't think he was ready to go on his own). With #2, they gave me a huge fit regarding induction and refused to strip my membranes. Exact same doc that did both for #1. ??? No idea! I'm glad the induction thing didn't work out though...because she scheduled it for the 23rd depending on my cervix..and I wanted it the 22nd. Went into labor on my own on the 21st and gave birth on the 22nd My last baby so I'm glad I got to experience going into labor naturally.
