Valerian/rash/not sleeping

I wasn't sure where to post this but I have not been sleeping. I am almost 13 weeks and haven't had a good nights sleep in several weeks and my midwife suggested I try Valerian Root tincture so I did on Tuesday night. DS (11.5 months) had a rough night that night and was up to nurse 3 times, after I tried taking it he was up nursing for an hour then I was wide awake so I tried it again and was drifting to sleep when he was up again for another hour. So needless to say I have no idea if it works for me or not because I was so busy with him BUT then Wednesday morning DS woke up with a rash all over his face so i am assuming he is reacting poorly to the Valerian. I didn't take it last night but by this morning his whole body is covered with a rash, his face and diaper area are the worst. Could this still be he body reacting to the Valerian??? Also since I am not sleeping my immune system is shot I am sick so he could have been running a temp on Tuesday night and this could be a heat rash???
Any ideas to help me sleep, I can't even function anymore.
Thank You

You son may have been up because he was getting a viral infection that caused the rash. I would give the Valarian another try. I don't take it myself, but I do give it to both of my boys ages 2 and 5. It helps them to calm down if they are really upset as well as helps them to sleep at night.

I dont know...but i was told by my midwife not to take Valerian or Melatonin at all...there just isnt enough studies in prego women to determine if its safe. If you need to sleep try some benadryl or unisom.

Re: Valerian/rash/not sleeping

Hmm...my midwife said no to melatonin and yes to valarien. But I took benadryl last night and slept like a baby, now I just need to get over this cold and find a long term solution to the insomnia.
