Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

Hmm, am I odd? I only do a cold soak/rinse then a hot wash with a warm rinse. I use Purex F&C and if there's a poopy diaper I use a dab of TTO. No problems yet... although we do have hard water and I won't surprised if they pop up one day. My hair feels from buildup.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

I always spray poo dipes before putting them in the pail

I do a cold rinse to get the extra pee out of the dipes.

Hot wash with 1/4 to 1/2 reg. amount of detergent....(1/4 for mostly pockets, 1/2 for mostly fitteds/pf's)

extra cold rinse to ensure the soaps all out of them.

I line dry my dipes. The sun makes them brighter, keeps elastic in working condition (high heat in the dryer will break elastic down quickly) I usually 'fluff' them in the dryer for about 5 minutes.

Once in a while I strip them and wash with 2 capfuls of bleach.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

Oh yes rinsing poop all but gone before I wash here too.
I tried all the "good" recommended detergents like Country Save, Planet and all the F&C and had issues. From slight stink to too many suds. Even our regular clothing wasnt doing as well with these detergents. So, I then stripped everything in the dishwasher and went to Tide HE, use slightly less then the smallest recommeded amount and we have been rockin on ever since. I do a cold soak, rinse and then a full fledge hot wash with one extra rinse.
We do have extremely gross hard water to start with.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

Ugh! I'm trying to find a good system.
I thought I had one but now having stink issues. I always dunk poopy diapers right away but any diaper that my 2yo or 3yo mess in takes forever to get clean. I've been using prefolds more with them since they seem to not have the stink problems that my fitteds have.
We have very, very hard water and an HE FL as well. I've been using Allens naturally with some bac out but am going to try the Tide HE soap soon. Right now I do a cold rinse (sometimes twice), Hot wash/Cold rinse with soap and bac out, Warm wash, warm rinse with nothing and then sometimes still have to run another rinse.
I'm really hoping we can pick up a cheapo top-load this summer and hook it up so I can use it just for diapers. Right now I do a load everyday which since it takes soooo long puts me behind on the rest of the laundry.
Hopefully I'll get the figured out soon.

Where do you gals find the Calgon?

Kroger has it, I don't think I've seen it at our walmart but yours might have it. It's usually on the top shelf next to the borax and all that stuff.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

this has been my routine for over a year now :

cold rinse, hot wash with 1/2 capful purex f&c, cold rinse. throw in drier

no problems, & I've only had to strip the dipes once. we have VERY hard water.

We have hard water with a water softner. My routine is cold cycle with nothing added, warm wash with 1 TBSP dawn with a few drops of TTO, then extra cold rinse. Every weekend I add a downy ball with vinegar to the first rinse. We never have stink issues.
