Goopy eye?

My son cought a cold and then woke up with lots of eye sleepers
now its lots and lots of eye sleepers...
his eyes aren't red but they do appear to be a little swollen. he doesn't have any fever.
i feel so bad for him, his nose is running, his eyes are running
anybody had a similar experience? He is six months and we've never had anything like this before

Re: Goopy eye?

our next door neighbor's son had the goopy eye too a couple weeks ago. They took him in and it was pink eye. He didn't have any swelling, no redness/pink and it wasn't itchy at all. I'd call the dr just in case. Pink eye is really contagious. Luckly my kids didn't get it.

Re: Goopy eye?

When my dd was 6 months old she had goopy eyes as well. They were not red which normally indicates pink eye. Since it's not red I would think it might be something else. When my dd's eyes were goopy she actually had an ear infection in both ears. The doctor said sometimes with infections the fluids will need to drain elsewhere. She was not running any type of fever either. I was told with anything going on with they eyes they do need to be checked out.

Re: Goopy eye?

When my son had a goopy eye, we took him in to the pediatrician and she found an ear infection. Apparently he just had a nasty head cold that effected his ears, eyes, sinuses, etc.

Re: Goopy eye?

It's very common for a congested infant to have goopy eyes.

Re: Goopy eye?

eye update:
we've waited a couple days trying to use the benadryl that the doctor suggested... he hates the tastes and spits it out
we hid it in his oatmeal and banana and that worked for day
last night we decided to try breastmilk and had decided to probably take him to the doc today but it is almost all cleared up. One side still has just a tiny amount, like a reg. eye sleeper
so i guess we'll just try some more through out the day and maybe tomorrow and see how it goes
