Rear end crashes are more frequent but they make up less than 10% of severe crashes. Plus in a rear end collision both vehicles are traveling in th esame direction or one is stopped so the crash forces are not combined and not as strong. The reason to RF is because 90+% of all severe crashes are frontal and side impact. That is why the crash videos show that.

The seat being more upright is actually a good thing, as long as the child's head falls to the side rather than forward when asleep, a 35 or 30 degree angle is better than 45.
