I never said those who NIP like that have no respect for their bodies. Yes, I do go places where people have it pushed WAY up and WAY out (ever been to a Ren Faire?), but I choose not to look.

I won't nurse in my car for the comfort of others. I will be discreet when nursing in public, though. And, yes, my daughter was one who really LIKED to push my shirt up at one point, so I just encouraged her to put it back down. She also did not like the nursing coverups, and I never used one. Never needed it because we developed a system that did not cause overexposure.

I'm quite positive that no one even knew I was NIP when I did because you simply could not tell. DD was in her sling, and I had as much covered as possible. You don't need to have the entire breast exposed to gain access to the nipple.

I clearly stated that in our family it is extra skin; we try not to expose it to others, and we also try not to view it inappropriately. If we do ACCIDENTALLY, that is one thing. To flash it out for all to see when it is not necessary is another thing. Not hypocritical at all.

I don't know who said it was hypocritical but I def. didn't think so. I just wish more nursing mom's would have a more understanding view...but obviously not. Just b/c your child was a sling rider which is fine and I tried to do that as well and she did not go for it. My child I admit was very demanding and not easily "encouraged" to do all things comfortable for me at the time. So I was forced to feed her in the car, which most of the time was fine...but at the same time I wished the world would lighten up. I know with my next child I will be NIP no matter how they eat.

i'm the one that said it was hypocritical b/c she was saying that in her house boobs are just "extra skin" but that she thinks they should be covered up b/c she's teaching her children to be respectful and discreet. i think when you're teaching your children to be respectful of their bodies that you should teach them respect for a bfing mom whether she's feeding at hom or NIP HOWEVER b/c they're doing what the respected human body is made for. respect goes past the human body and onto other people......

i'm tired and i don't know if that made sense or not...hopefully it did

I never said that women nursing in public was not on the list of things they are to respect. They are taught, in general, to respect other people. However, this is MUCH easier to teach if the nursing mother is at least attempting to be discreet. It is respectful for a woman to use some discretion, and it is respectful for my family not to draw undue attention to the fact that they are NIP. Common sense. They are feeding their kid...period...I don't care if it is with a bottle or a breast. I would prefer my kids not to be flashed with the entire breast during the process. Again, you can access the nipple without exposing the entire upper torso in the process.

You do what you want...I will do what I want. I'm not on any crusade, and I don't insist people think like me. I also am not going to be devastated, heartbroken, or feel like a failure if I cannot nurse this baby. As long as I feed him, I'm happy.

THAT is why so many women have such a hard time NIP because all they hear is "i dont have a problem with moms nursing, so long as they do it discreetely, and modestly" jeebus! i think MORE women should NIP with their entire breast exposed, maybe then we wouldnt be such a breast=sex culture!
the breasts PRIMARY function is to feed a child. covered, uncovered, its doing its job, and doing it well (look how content that baby looks ) screw "modesty" modesty is not showing your entire butt when wearing shorts. not trying to cover most of your breast for the comfort of OTHER PEOPLE.
if people dont want to see a whole breast when someone is nursing, they can look away!

This was my point. Why do people have to be discreet when nursing if they're OK with showing their OWN skin? If you don't like it, too bad. Women don't cover up in other countries most of the time because breastfeeding IS NOT A SEXUAL ISSUE. Unfortunately, our society has oversexualized the femal body, AND has not been accepting of BFing in public which causes people to feel uncomfortable with an almost bare breast showing if there is a baby attached to it. It's doesn't have to be like that at all. If she were sitting in the park with her boob hanging out for now reason at all, then I'd be bothered. But she's feeding her baby. What you should teach your children, along with modesty, is respect for the human body. Teach them that seeing a bare breast with a baby attached doesn't have to be sexual in nature. They're useful for more than one thing.

On the longies... they don't really look like longies to me. They look like striped tights for under a dress.
