Re: For the love of reading group - November *Join us!*

I haven't read in days. It has been way too busy here and it doesn't look like its going to let up anytime soon. I am hoping all the kids nap at the same time today so I can curl up in bed for a lil while and read. I am soo exhausted from the weekend I hope that I may have to nap instead. I am hoping to get a copy of Interview with a vampire soon.

I actually did get some reading done this afternoon with the girls in the saucers and when they went to nap. DS sat close by and played with toys quietly beside me. I guess he could tell I needed some rest. Mind you he was probably tired too since he decided not to nap today! I can't wait till DH gets home and I am going to have a nice warm shower (with DS i'm sure hehe) and I will feel much more alive then I am now then after dinner I am going to bed and try to read.

I'm usually into romance (not historical) but I'll take any good reads right now.

I haven't read much romance. But Nora Roberts is good. I call her books my b**chy reads. When I am really grumpy or PMSing and need something cheesy but decent.

Can You Keep a Secret and the Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella were good and cute.

I started The Time Traveler's Wife yesterday and while I think its good and I am enjoying it I am having a hard wrapping my head around it sometimes. I have read a lot of different/bizarre/weird stuff but this is very different for me.

Re: For the love of reading group - November *Join us!*

are we on Dec. thread yet? too many to multi quote so I'll just kinda summarize...

I have a kindle. I love it. But it's a money sucker for me because I read really fast and prefer libraries or half price books. Also, it irks me that I can't share books I buy. However it was a gift so I didn't buy it myself.

books discussed that I have read:

The Poisonwood Bible
Sarah's Key (good but sad too)
Outlander series
JR Ward black dagger brotherhood (not super impressed tbh)
twilight series
sookie stackhouse series
stephanie plum series (not great writing, but fast reads and easy entertainment)
chocolat (loved 5 quarters of an orange by same author)
Eat, Pray, Love (LOVEd the book, hated the movie)
Girl w/ dragon tattoo series
Midwives
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

I am stumped on what to read next. Usually I find an author that I like and read everything he/she has written. But sometimes I get bored because that author sticks to cookie-cutter/predictable/etc books. Ex: I love Larry McMurtry's books, and he has written many within several genres. I like a lot of Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve, and Elizabeth Berg - but they can start to run together. Which is why I stay away from Nicholas Sparks now. I also love historical fiction - if you haven't read The Other Bolyn Girl, I highly recommend it!!!

I don't like "dark" stuff. i.e. I stopped at the first chapter of The Curious Incident... because of the dog's death. I just can't stomach stuff like that at all. That's why I haven't read The Book Thief, because even though I hear how great it is, I just worry.

other recommendations for those who are stuck like me:
Beneath a Marble Sky
The Bookseller of Kabul
Promise Me by Nancy G. Brinker
The Sparrow
Geisha, a Life
Guests of the Sheik

I really love reading about other cultures and historical periods, even though I tend to stick to fiction. So I am hoping to find something one of you can suggest for me

Re: For the love of reading group - November *Join us!*

If someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll get our Dec thread going tomorrow. I'm on my phone so it's a bit time consuming. I've been totally slacking on the reading but am ramping back up. I'll respond to the thread tomorrow though!

Molokai by Alan Brennert! I don't hand out 5 stars to books too often and this is easily 5 stars for me. Historical fiction (my fave) about the leprosy outbreak in Hawaii.

Another 5 star hist fiction is Ireland by Frank Delaney. I did the audiobook version on this and it was fantabulous.
