FYI if anyone finds a baby bird that can't fly, please leave it where it landed. Mama bird will come and retrieve it at her soonest convienence! And if she cannot get it back to her nest, she will come, hide it the best she can and feed it. It is a myth that they reject their young if a person touches it. They actually can become frantic if they cannot find their babe. (my best friend is a bird freak and told me all of this-checked with the local wildlife rescue and she was right)
The little guy was pretty cute, I love it when they are all chubby and little!

What a cute bird, but I totally ditto MamaMer - it's best to leave the little guys where you find 'em. I had a baby mockingbird on my front porch and after a lot of Googling I realized it had probably recently fledged and it's momma was still caring for it.

We have a house sparrow nest on the ceiling of our porch (barn swallows built it) and they've used it twice this summer already

Glad it was able to fly away! Cute little thing. Kinda looked like a Oreial to me. Not sure if that is how you spell it.
