My birth story..2 weeks later!

Ok, sorry it took so long...we've been really busy with a 2 year old and a newborn!!

Ok, so I started having contractions at around 6 PM…they got increasingly more painful and closer together, and by 11:30, I was having contractions about every 6 min apart, and had been for about 2 hours…so I told DH it was time to go…he got up and packed our bags and got Gabriel up to his family’s house….we left a little after midnight, and got in a L&D room at about 1:15.

They checked me and I was 2 CM still, and baby was still at -2 station….My contractions were hard, but once I got laid down, they were a bit infrequent…still less than 10 min apart, but not as close as they want you to be having them, ya know?

Anyways, the contx picked back up again, and with them, Asher’s heartrate fell…each time…going from 160-170 to 120-130. So they had me lay on my left side for a bit, which seemed to help. Even though my contrx weren’t really close, they decided to go ahead and keep me since baby seemed slightly stressed….I decided to wait on my epidural for a while to see how I would progress, and they weren’t going to give me pitocin until 6 AM. At about 3:30 I was ready for it (and Karen, I cried with the contrx, so don’t worry about it, you CAN…they kinda expect it!)

At this point, I was starting to feel sick, so they had a bed pan on one side of my bed and a trash can on the other! Never did get sick, but felt like it the whole time!

The anest. came in and give me my Epi really fast (it hurt, last time it didn’t!!!) and it kicked in pretty fast. I IMMEDIATELY went from 2 CM to 3, then 4, in less than a half hour! (Guess I will always do that, same thing happened with Gabriel)

Baby was still at -2 station when they started my Pitocin at about 7 AM..they were a little behind, L&D was full….they broke my water at 7:30, and baby was still high! So I was beginning to get worried then, that I would have to have a C-section, as my mom did when her 3rd wouldn’t descend. So I sat STRAIT up to help Asher come down…BIG NO NO! My blood pressure dropped so fast I felt like I would pass out..scared DH big time! So they had me sit back a little, still upright to help him come down, but laid back enough to keep my BP down….it still stayed low, and I had to have a few shots of something to boost it back up (can’t remember what it was)

Anyways, during this time, I started to feel pain from the contractions (the first of what was to become MUCHO pain)…I told my nurse this and she gave me a bolster shot…it helped…SOME

It gets pretty blurry after that..as I had been up since 6:30 Monday morning to now almost 1 PM…My mom was there and I was in and out…and kept saying…oh man, I feel a LOT of pressure down low…and was huffing and puffing through my PAINFUL contractions…the nurse comes in and checks me and says…OH MAN…she looked at me and I got SO scared..I knew then that it was time, and I was thinking “ok, is it too late to back out of this now?” SERIOUSLY..my epidural was wearing off, I was feeling his head come out of me, and I was NOT ready for this!

Long story short, Mom left the room, Dr came in just in time to catch him…(they wouldn’t let me push, he was almost out already!) I pushed less than 20 minutes, although I felt like it was less than 10~DH claims around 20..and he was born at 1:07 PM! 7 lbs 7 oz and 19 inches long…

I tore SLIGHTLY and required one stitch…DH, bless his heart, got splattered when they cut his cord, and nearly got sick (he actually had to run to the bathroom!) But all was well in the end, and Asher has been a perfect baby! (until today, but that’s another post!)

I was in pain after he was born (duh, the epi wore off! And I’m getting stitched down below!) so they gave me a shot through my IV…never again will they do that! It knocked me OUT! I was out seriously until 7:30 that night..I was so depressed that first night because I felt like I had missed out on some serious bonding with Asher..but he is defiantly a mama’s boy!

All in all, a great story, I suppose, but I hope to never again feel that pain! I do still want another kid, but DO NOT want a faulty epidural again!

That stinks about the faulty Epi! I am glad a beautiful healthy baby was the outcome regardless
