Caffiene and Breastmilk

So... after a week of only 4-5 hrs of sleep a day I decided I needed a cup of coffee this morning to get through the day. This is my first cup of "real" coffee in over a year and wow, I'm wired! I was also pleasantly surprised this morning to find that McDonald's has free small coffee all week.

Anyway, Do I have to worry about the BM I'm pumping at work today? Do I need to dump it?

Thanks!

I think you will be fine, I don't think one or even two cups of coffee will do any harm. I drink a cup of half caff every now and then w/o. Issues

in moderation it is fine, just checkout the half life and the age of your baby. Also wacth some babies have a sensitivity to it, so if he gets fussy...then you will know you might want to lay off for another month or so.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it's pumped milk she'll be getting at d/c (or the like) I assume so it's not like she'll be wired right before bed.

if you are freezing your milk by the time LO consumes it she will be older too.....some babies are sensitive but just like people can build up a tolerance.....when I worked DD was 3 mos old and I drank 2 cups a day with no probs.

I drink a cup every morning and often one as an afternoon pick me up and ds doesn't have any issues. You should be fine but just watch your Lo and see how she does.

Re: Caffiene and Breastmilk

Like pp, I started back on caffeine at 6-7 months. Usually one cup/day but sometimes 2. I believe your LO is not getting the full complement of caffiene (much like alcohol in BM). If your really concerned you could have a cup right after pumping/feeding. Then you have a few hours to metabolize.
