Birth Control

Any one have any recommendations? My period came back 12 weeks PP and my husband is on his way home from Iraq. I know most (if not all) hormonal birth control options are out, but what about Mirena? I'm more comfortable with the idea of Paraguard but I've always had very heavy periods and I know Paragaurd can make them even heavier. Thanks mamas!

Re: Birth Control

I had the mirena after my 2nd one and LOVED IT!!! I asked my doc about it again for after this baby and I was concerned it would cause supply issues. He said it shouldn't b/c it's so low hormone. I had some supply issues with both my other kids and they ended up weaning themselves by about 4.5 months, but I had issues before getting the IUD, and I didn't notice it being worse after the IUD. I have since realized that I think some of the supply issues were related to "nursing management", meaning I was trying to stick to a "schedule" instead of doing on-demand nursing. I think I also didn't realize that it's completely normal for the baby to want to nurse what feels like ALL afternoon and evening during the early weeks and first couple of months. So, this time, I plan to be more relaxed and follow an on-demand schedule, wear baby a lot, and try some of the teas and foods that help increase supply like oatmeal, hummus, etc.

Wow! I didn't know hummus increased supply. I will totally have to snack on that when I go back to work next week. Love hummus.
