sugar water for collic?

My son is 3 months old. He is breastfed, and hes also lactose intolerant. When I do give him formula, which is never more than once a day, and maybe three times a week at most. It has to be soy milk. However, he has been sick. Today he will not nurse at all! He tries to latch on and he cant. He just doesnt latch on. He will clamp on and just pull at it and scream. So I tried to get him to drink formula, and he wont drink that either. I asked my mom and my sister and they both say the same thing, give him warm sugar water. Sure enough, I gave him maybe an ounce and he sucked it right down. Then fell asleep. I know everyone on here says no sugar water...but it seems to be helping! What do I do?

Is his nose clogged up? It's hard to get a good latch with a stuffed up nose. Try putting some saline solution up his nose and suck it out with one of those little bulb things. My kids usually just sneezed right away, so I never had to use the bulb, but I don't think all kids do that. But it's crazy the amount of gunk that can come out of a nose.

I'd call your doc about the sugar water. It's not something I would do, personally.

His chest does sound funny, but his nose is clear, i already tried to suck it out, and nothing came out. It looks like its all clear. Even with just eating breastmilk, he gets extremely gassy. The sugar water seems to help him get the gas out.
