Inact Boy Question

My son is 3 and is intact. My brothers girlfriend was up with my brother for a visit and asked my friend if she circ'd her son. She said she did and my brother's girlfriend said "oh good I am glad that people still do that". Then she went on to say that she see's so many more infections in intact boys then circ'd ones. (She's a Peds ER nurse). She says that parents of non-circd boys don't care for them properly and they cause more bladder infections etc.

I thought the bladder infection and non-circing was a myth. She said that parents don't know to pull the skin back and clean them properly. I told her that I was told not to pull the skin back and especially not force it. I seem to recall being to that you don't have to pull the skin back when it is moveable for cleaning as long as they take care of themselves.

Tell me if I should be pulling it back. His is very moveable and he has pulled it all the way back himself. Once he even got it stuck...silly boy! I don't want him to get an infection!

only the penis owner should pull it back. the reason she has seen so many cases is because people don't go in when nothing is wrong lol

That's what I thought. So does he have to clean it like in the tub though? I mean it wouldn't be hard but I really don't remember what they say to do.

If you don't pull it back, washing is fine. I only even try to "wash" the tip if there is a sand problem, lol!

Dont worry about it, really! Its like the vagina, do we pull back everything and put soap and qtips in every nook and cranny? Nope, its self cleaning. So is the intact penis! With the vagina we wash daily with water and maybe a little soap but thats the extent of it. Same thing for the intact penis. Run some water over it maybe a little soap if you really feel nessicary, but when the skin is ready to be pulled back on the penis the child will do it on its own.
Mayube now that his moves pull it have him pull it back and just run water over it or something but i wouldnt lather a ton of soap on.lol
Our vaginas are clean without taking extra care, just a little water, same with the penis.
HTH, anyone please feel free to correct me if im wrong.

Re: Inact Boy Question

I had read that there is no need to pull it back to clean it until they go through puberty. So, I've never really done anything to clean it other than soak in a bath. Never had any infections, either. Everything you origionally thought to be true is what I learned also. I don't know what to say about what your brother's girlfriend said except that I am suprised.

Good info posted here. The care is much simpler than some make it out to be.

The nurse is probably right in saying improper care lead to all those intact problems - early forceful retraction (what she's probably told parents to do) definately contributes to that.
