Re: More name help

We liked the name Emmanuelle for a girl for a long time but I was put off because in the 70's there was a string of adult films with that name in the title. I wasn't even born in the 70's but DH still knew the connection right away.

Not to discourage but just thought I would put in my 2 cents

Re: More name help

my sister married into have a **** star name. So even if you pick the perfect name for your child, sometimes it happens anyway! We enjoy teasing her that she, and her mother in law, are both very famous adult stars!

BTW, my husband's middle name is Antelope. His parents were hippies. He thinks it's funny.

Names are tough. So many of our life experiences affect how we feel about names.

As long as it's not like a serial killer or something. Those names stick around forever. It would depend on how popular the athlete was and what they did I suppose.

Re: More name help

We named my 18-mos-old Eleanor Mae, knowing that we would call her Ellie. I get teased from my FAMILY that I have a Clampett cousin, otherwise nobody makes the connection. I'd go for it.

I wasn't born in the 70's by much! I feel pretty old around here a lot of the time.

Re: More name help

There are only a few name combos that would be off limits for me and they would have to be extremely famous or infamous. I'd think you'd be safe.
But really a great sounding board would to tell us the name... if any of us actually recognize it right away you'd have a better understanding of how the general population would respond. My guess is you're fine.

Re: More name help

My cousin had a little boy a couple months ago and named him Dylan Thomas. While that name does not have "bad connotations.. I still recognized it immediately. They used Thomas because that is a family name and they have no idea who the Dylan Thomas the author is. I little research is a good idea for sure. I am all about name meanings.
