Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

I thought about using cloth when I was pregnant with my first, but I never looked into it until she was three or four months old. I don't know where the urge to use cloth came from, though.. I don't know anyone who used/uses cloth (except one of my mom's sisters, but I didn't know she used cloth until after I told my mom that I was going to). I probably saw something online somewhere or maybe in a magazine, IDK.

I saw them online - I think on a parenting forum I belong to - when Gaby was a baby & thought they were pretty cool so bought a few, but then she grew out of them & I never got around to replacing them. With Emersyn, I was in a worse financial situation & made the decision early on that cloth diapering was going to be a wise choice for me.. so it was mostly a financial decision for me, BUT I also think they are utterly adorable and after seeing photos of lots of babes in cloth, I just couldn't resist jumping on the bandwagon!

We started using cloth because we could not find any sposies that would last all night without leaking. We actually started with cloth only at night and waited to CD full time until we could build up a stash. I never planned to CD but was surprised how much I loved them.

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

Let's see... I was on Fertility Friend and 6mo pg with DS. Someone mentioned it and I was intrigued... I started researching and have been addicted ever since! I also am convinced that sposie wipes and dipes were what gave my oldest such bad rashes! I wish I'd known about cloth then!

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

On a mom blog I read by People magazine. Constance Marie was a guest blogger & she cloth diapers her daughter & linked to the HH site. I did a week of research & started CDing my DD full time when she was 3 months old. I can't wait until it's time to try for LO #2 because newborn fluff is SO precious

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

My mom CD'ed all four of us kids, and expected me to do the same. Since I can't say 'no' to my mom I accepted her gift of 6 months of diaper service when I had my first baby. After the 6 months were up (I loved it, btw!) I saw how expensive it was ($500 for 6 months ) and dh and I decided to try buying and washing our own stash.

When I got pregnant with baby #2, my mom offered to get 6 months of diaper service again. I told her I'd much rather her spend her money on dipes that I could keep. She got off a little cheaper than the first time

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

I learned about cloth diapering when I was 18 or so-- not married, definitely no kids yet! I researched it and thought it looked interesting, but I wanted to talk to someone who'd actually done it to be sure it was feasible. I asked my mom if she knew anyone who had CDing experience, and she looked at me like I was crazy and told me SHE cloth diapered ME!! Hah! She's been nothing but supportive

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

my story is fairly simple. We used sposies for the first three months cause honestly I though cloth was just prefolds and plastic pants like my mom used on us. Then my DS started peeing through every single diaper and was noth getting enough sleep during naps or at night (and neither were we). A good friend told me about how she used cloth and that you could make them super absorbent with doublers and what not. We ordered a few BG's to try at night and I was instantly in love!!! no leaks!!!!
Funny thing is now that I have been CDing for a year I don't even have my BG's anymore, but I do have pf's and flats! Funny how I went back to the old school anyway

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

I had thought about it when I was pg with my now 3.5 yr old, but dh thought it would be too much work, too gross, etc. So I didn't really give it another thought. Well, it turned out that he was allergic to most sposies and got horrible rashes from them. He was also waking up soaked every morning, and I was getting sick of changing sheets every day. Around 14 months old I talked to my cousins about it and they both used cloth. One lent me a fuzzi bunz, and the other lent me a huge bag of one size basic fitteds and a few covers. Once I tried it, I was hooked. He was waking up dry, no more rash, washing was easy. Once dh saw how easy it was and how much better for his skin, he was hooked, too.
DS2 was in cloth from day one (well, I think we used sposies for the first week, since I was recovering from a c-section). We did cloth exclusively for a long time. Around the time he was 1, our washer started dying a slow death, I was overwhelmed (realized I had bad PPD) and quit for a while. Now we have a new washer and I'm getting back into cloth and can't wait.

Re: How did you get turned on to cloth diapers?

I was on another forum and someone mentioned CDing. I didn't know the first thing about it and I instantly started researching everything CDing related. I was about 6 months pregnant with my now 19 month DS. I had a small stash of newborn fitteds and about 24 OS pocket diapers, of all different kinds. I used the newborns every once in awhile for the first month with sposies, but once that month was over it was nothing but cloth. My DH actually told me that we had spent so much on the CDs that if I didnt start using them then I would have to sell them. I didn't want to sell them before I gave it a fair try and just dove in. I have never looked back. Now my 2 month old DS is wearing some of the same OS pockets that I bought for ODS.
I am so happy that my DH pretty much said either sh*t or get off the pot. All I needed was a little push and little did he know he created a monster.
