DD is holding her urine.

my dd is 2 and she PT without my help a couple of months ago. she's been doing great on her potty. yesterday she started holding her urine. she had one pretty good pee on the potty yesterday morning after she woke up but it still wasn't as much as she normally does after going all night.
she started just letting a little out at a time and saying she's done. her urine is also dark and strong smelling (which it has not been before)
she is not complaining that anything hurts and doesn't grimmace or make faces or say anything when she goes to the potty.
she still breastfeeds so she's getting milk, she also drank a lot of water yesterday and she also gets root beer or tea at times but had none yesterday.
i know if she keeps this up she can wind up with a pretty nasty infection. i've checked her genitals and they are not red at all and when i wipe her they don't seem to be sore.
what can i do to make her pee more?

Re: DD is holding her urine.

My dd used to do this all the time. Her urologist said to give her a laxative (milk of magnesia). He said "if she's pooping, she's peeing too" Sometimes we would give her a piece of chocolate instead. The caffeine would stimulate her bladder and make her go. You can also try a warm bath. I would probably get her checked for a uti anyway. My dd never complained about pain when she had one, she would just stop peeing. I hope it gets better.

Re: DD is holding her urine.

My 3 yr old dd has troubles with utis. I can tell you know that if it were my dd I would take her to the dr. A uti or a possible uti is nothing to play with. They can go from no pain, fever, vomiting with in hrs. Katelynn has had to be hospitalized for a few days over a horrid uti, that was left untreated for only 4 days. It was her 1st one, and I didn't really knowmuch about it.

So please do get your dd checked out. As much as I dicspize doing to the drs, I would. If you do deside to take her to be checked, I would try and try hard, to get a urine samaple from her at home to take in. You don't want them to have to cath. her.

Here is a great site on childeren and urinary tract infections,
http://familydoctor.org/online/famdo...ommon/272.html

One more thing, this could possibly be something other then a uti as well. GL to you and your dd I hope she gets better soon.

Re: DD is holding her urine.

hey, i read everything you guys posted this morning but haven't had time to update until now. she's doing much better today. she had a good bowel movement and has been urinating like normal all day. i always make her go potty when i go so i know she's going often enough (usually once every hour to every 2.5 hours, i pee alot) her urine is still more yellow than it has been but it doesn't smell nearly as much as it did yesterday.
normally only her first urine of the morning was real yellow and had a smell then throughout the day it would become more clear. it's still not real clear but not bright or dark yellow either.
