Setting up a new Nursing/Pumping room in my work office: need ideas!

Ladies,
While in the process of finally trying to sort out my maternity leave with my boss and CFO (yeah, 3-4 weeks before my due date. Good stuff that), I mentioned my struggles with finding available private, empty office space to pump for DD 1 (I'm in a cube) and how I'm even more concerned now (with DD 2 on the way) that we're full to capacity and the conference rooms are booked 90% of the time. I refuse to pump in the bathroom and was planning on pumping, unhappily, in my car.

So today, the CFO comes to me and says he's "found me a room". Wouldn't tell me where it is, but was asking what I would want in it. Me, trying to avoid asking for too much, just said an electrical outlet, a chair, a door and a flat surface. He then asked what would I LIKE in it. I found out it will be a "permanent" room, no one else will use it, though it could be used for potentially other mama's after me so that changes it up. He asked if I wanted a rocker, music, tv?

So help me help myself and the others to come after me. The maternity "policy" here is crap and they're not likely to change that any time soon, but if I can at least help to pioneer a decent pumping room for myself and future mamas-to-be at this company, then I want to do that. I work in advertising and we are always looking for young talent with fresh perspectives so they're going to continue to run into this situation (I hope!)

If you have a pumping station at work or ideas on what you think should go in one, please let me know so I can compile and see what sticks!

Thanks!

A dorm fridge for pumped milk, radio or tv, outlets, comfortable chair, a sink and towels is always a plus, completely private space, door that locks, perhaps a phone in case someone has an emergency and needs to find you asap,

I just want to say that that is awesome! I had to take a completely different job that allowed me to work from home b/c there was no way to pump while at work (and I EPed). I agree with the other mamas that you definitely need a door with a lock, a small fridge, towels at least if not a sink, too, and I know this is going out on a limb, but what about a computer? I had a hands free pump and I was able to get tons of work done on the computer while I was pumping.

awesome!
I worked while I pumped. So my laptop and cell phone went with me to the room. It would've been nice to have a pc so I didn't have to lug my pump and laptop stuff with me.
So my vote:
PC/printer
Phone
Chair
Desk
Sanitizing wipes (to wipe the desk/keyboard off)
Hand sanitizer
Outlet
Door that locks
Indoor plants (keeps air fresher)

I was in exactly the same situation and it became such a project that the room wasn't even "ready" when I returned so I just wanted to add that at the very least you might want to confirm that they have this immediately available day 1 of your return...

location of the room
key to the room (i sat and pumped in a conference room b/c key was not ready)
chair
table or other flat cleared surface

all the other items are great and definitely useful but at least with the above you could still use the room with a packed bag of pump wipes, cooler totes, batteries etc in case there is any delay in the set-up.

Re: Setting up a new Nursing/Pumping room in my work office: need ideas!

The essentials are just:
Several outlets
Desk
Comfortable Chair
Locking Door

Also nice would be:
Sink
Towel Dispenser w/ paper towels
Soap Dispenser w/ soap

The next tier up for me:
Mini fridge
Computer or port for laptop
Hospital grade pump (hey, you can ask!)

In our lactation room, I also brought some things to make it nicer:
Bulletin board where we post pictures of our babies
Book shelves for books and magazines which I brought in

Pictures of my lactation room can be found at http://lactationnarration.com/index....actation-room/

Your lactation room is great! I can't believe it took 3 years... but good for you for fighting! My "wish list" is about the same as yours.

You ladies are fantastic. Thank you for the suggestions, they're all great! I also agree on the computer, though I doubt it'll happen for me at least, unless I can snag the travel Mac laptop when I go in. (I am seriously looking at getting a PumpEase for myself too). I also like the key, sanitizer and plants ideas.

I will compile these and report back later once I find out just where the heck this room is and what they end up doing for it.
