Question about high blood pressure and delivering early

I'm wondering if someone has ever heard of this happening before.

I'm hearing this story third hand, my mom told me that my uncle said my cousin had her baby 2 wks early yesterday because of extreme high blood pressure and blurry vision. After the emerg c-sect my cousin went to ICU where her blood pressure is now stabilized but that she is still "blind". This is what my uncle has said, "she is still blind". Has anyone heard of this happening and if so, will my cousin remain blind or will her vision return to normal?

I have high blood pressure sounds like she had pre eclampsia. I have never heard of anyone going blind but blurry vision is normal for pre eclampsia.

Re: Question about high blood pressure and delivering early

I've never heard of anyone going blind either, but it's a sign of pre-e and a very common one! I am 39 weeks tomorrow, and my doctor has been talking about inducing for the past few weeks because of signs pointing to pre-e. I'm on bed rest because of high blood pressure with orders to watch for vision issues, headaches, and rib pain.

Re: Question about high blood pressure and delivering early

Yes, a lady I work with's daughter became severely preeclamptic with her 4th pregnancy, ICU and blindness. It's been about 2 months and she can see up close but not far away. I was preeclamptic with both my girls. Between the 2 pregnancies I had 6 episodes where my vision blacked out but it came back within a couple of minutes (really scary nonetheless). You can go to preeclampsia.org for more information.

Re: Question about high blood pressure and delivering early

I had severe pre-eclampsia and was induced early as well. To diagnose it there must be high blood pressure, edema, and protien in the urine. Very high blood pressure can cause headaches and double vision, but I have never heard of it causing blindness....For me it was double vision and it went away three weeks later when my BP stabilized.
