I wonder if that bread recipe would be good with wheat berries in it? My mom goes NUTS over Orowheat Honey Wheat Berry bread. Seriously, she has been known to stock several loaves in her suitcase and travel back to Florida with it (she gets it in WA state). She has also got Grandma to do the same for her! If I could find a recipe for that, I think she would suddenly not think that this diet is cooky. ![]() Please report back how that cake turns out. Do you think you could use the cream cheese from after you make whey instead of normal cream cheese? Breakfast - extruded grain HFCS cereal with ultra pasteurized organic milk (which I am really starting to wonder what makes it organic other then it came from the earth and therefore is about as organic as viagra??). Snack - Mango (non organic but fruit all the same), honey orange (non organic but fruit all the same), and air popped popcorn (organic) with non organic butter and Florida Sunshine Lunch - HFCS whole grain bread with peanut butter (not sure but more then likely hydrologized and HFCS) and raspberry preserves (HFCS again I am sure). Along with the Viagra milk (see above if you just see this). ![]() Dinner - NT Sole, with modififed version of NT tartar sauce (Hellmans Mayo and 2 baby dills, store purchased, and a bit of jarred roasted red pepper... everything else is as says except I didn't have capers). I will serve this with left over frozen peas in butter. Dessert - DH and I will have left over HFCS peach cobbler and I hope to get DS to eat an apple if he wants anything. Tomorrow I get my raw milk, milk kefir grains, pastured liver, celtic sea salt, and pastured eggs! ![]() ![]() Oh and one more question, I have a sealable quart-ish size mason jar that I was thinking of storing kefir in. Do you think it is better to have it be the milk kefir or the water kefir? My plastic strainer fits in it perfectly, unlike my normal qt. size mason jars.

Breakfast - soaked oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and smoothies Lunch - leftover mac and cheese and green beans for DS, leftover taco salads for DH and me Dinner - salmon patties, green beans, mac and cheese, chocolate pie (birthday dinner at my parent's and this is what I requested )I was pleasantly surprised at the soaked oatmeal. I tasted no difference at all (which was good, I was expecting an after taste)! Next time I do it I am going to cut down on the cooking liquid, though, since we like our oatmeal a little thicker.

Re: Nourishing Traditions Support Thread
Gosh! You guys are way too fast for me. I'll be here all night trying to catch up.
Here is what I have going on: Went to our natural market yesterday for eggs, beef & chicken, & low heat past. milk (no source for raw milk yet). I've almost finished reading "Real Food", but I really wish she had recipes in there-especially for granola (anybody want to share?). Still working on reading through NT. I am going to a bread making class tomorrow to learn how to make bread grinding my own wheat. I do this already, but need some improvement ![]() I am going to try to make homemade yogurt in the crockpot tomorrow (any tips would be appreciated). And we will be working in the garden to get the beds ready for planting. Oh, and I was asking the rancher at the market about recipes and he suggested "The Joy of Cooking". What an epiphany! All along I've had one of the most basic whole food cookbooks right under my nose. Yay!

Got my kefir grains in the mail today (thanks Farm_Mama!) and they are now sitting in some fresh (pasteurized) milk. I'm hoping to get raw milk next week and will start using that. Also started a sourdough starter. Hope that works out!
B: pancakes with maple syrup. Hubby and I each also had eggs and my son had cantaloupe (he doesn't like eggs). L: strawberry banana smoothies Snack: homemade oatmeal bread (my son is a bread fiend) with some peanut butter. and green grapes D: rotisserie chicken, mashed sweet potatoes and a wild/brown rice with toasted almonds and golden raisins (YUM!) |

However I am always up for a new kitchen gadget, so I am thinking of getting a yogurt maker. ![]() I hope your garden plans went well! We should be starting to work on that next weekend. Oh and as for books on meat I must say that I am learning quite a bit from that "Complete Meat Cookbook" I got at the same time as my NT book. However some of the things in it are not NT (it was recommended from our farmer with our cow and pig and perhaps chickens). Quote:
Thank you again! Breakfast - HFCS pancakes, HFCS syrup, strawberries (non-HFCS) Lunch - DH brick like pasta, DS and me HFCS bread (last of that loaf) with HFCS jam and peanut butter, to drink raw milk ![]() Dinner - Overly complicated enriched grain, jello cheese Mac and cheese, with kosher hot dogs. DS had more raw milk, I had water and DH had a beer. ![]() I started to soak my oatmeal for tomorrow. Is it suppose to absorb water or stay under the water for the soak? Oh and today I posted my before photo (sort of) of my refrigerator on my blog. You can see it here.

Re: Nourishing Traditions Support Thread
Thanks. I made the best 100% whole wheat bread tonight. I'll be blogging about it tomorrow.Quote:

I make yogurt in my crockpot, a gallon every other week. I look more at the temp than at the time. The milk needs to reach 180 degrees (it takes about 2.5 hours in my crockpot and I think it heats fast/runs hot). Then wait until it gets to 110 degrees (that takes about 4 hours-if you miss the window, just heat it back up again). Mix your starter with a small amount of the warm milk to temper it and dump it all in the cp, stir it up and I wrap the whole thing in a big fleece blanket and leave it for 8-12 hours. I know that you can divide it into jars and flavor it, but since my biggest use is in smoothies, I just keep it plain and add fruit before blending. I also use it as a sour cream replacement by straining extra whey out of it (I use a diaper flat in a strainer). I save the whey to put in things like pancakes and muffins (could I soak my flour in whey?)

He then asked for another egg. So I cooked another one and mango (already ate by me). Then I got my dinner (left over fish sticks) and he ate peas, one of my fish sticks and some onion rings. So I did fairly well for DS at dinner.
