PP Fee Question -- Don't hate if this has been asked :)

Hi. I'm sure this has been asked and dealt with. I just need help. I usually cover the paypal fees or have them included w/ the payment. However, there was a currency conversion fee that was charged. I guess I wouldn't ask her to pay those, right? I guess, you smart mamas would say that I should have researched conversion fees before I gave her a total, right? Maybe I'll be shocked. Experiences please. Be gentle. I'm inclined to let it go and learn my lesson.

Well, actually (and I may be the minority) but I think that you should NOT have to pay that.

I agree that you should not have to cover those fees. Not sure if there is a set rule for this though!

I don't think you'd have to cover those.

I asked the buyer to pay it, but I said I wouldn't be angry if they didn't pay. I think it should be paid by the buyer (since it's a conversion on their end), but since the transaction is over, I would understand that they may not be willing to pay. I left the decision up the the buyer. I hope I didn't leave a sour taste in this person's mouth. Ugg!

From what I understand, the conversion fee is only 1%. So you would pay 3.9% instead of 2.9%. So unless you are talking large dollar amounts, it's not worth worrying about. I've never run into it, but then I tend to run my paypal account in US dollars, since that is where I do the bulk of my shopping!

yeah i checked ppcalc, it's only $1 off $100 so pp is correct that it's only 1%, but if you really needed a certain amount, i could see how it'd be irritating (or for a ffs item)

It was 3.9% + .30. Don't get it, but it added up. I asked her, then I told her to forget about it. I should have researched it all and asked her up front -- not after I gave her a total. Lesson learned. If I sell to someone from Canada, ask them to pay the conversion fee in my fsot post.

i agree. i always have a bit of conversion but i VERY OFTEN over pay shipping. i let pple know i'm in canada and i will have pple charge me 9 dollars in shipping and when it's only 6 dollars to ship it...i don't get the refund if you know what i mean. i also have done over a hundred transactions and don't have the feedback to reflect because i deal with the same 10 pple over and over..lol. i'm gonna say that a good buyer will pay for an item a.s.a.p and be hassle free. depends on a lot of factors...do you want to do business with this person again? is it worth the 90 cents? i have to admit that most days...i pay the extra bit and bite my toung. i have seen a lot of posters put disclaimers like (us/canada shipping only...u.k and aussi please contact for quote). i have also seen pple charge more and then put a disclaimer that differences more than a dollar will be refunded. your biggest worry is not the conversion rate so much as the 'ACTUAL' shipping. some places are very hard to ship to...take a long time...are very expensive.
