Re: Is it better to have a large variety of items?
I have been really getting a lot out of a www.indiebizchicks.com business help for small home crafters. Really i feel that i could never just make one or two things and be happy but I can see the benifit of working on just a few items and dedicating yourself to marketing just that. When you get into too many ideas and products it really zaps the flow because you have to bounce around to different markets. I am really trying to keep my creativity under control and just make woolens and trainers.

Yeah, I guess your variety has to make some sort of sense. Like it would be silly if I tried selling handmade fly fishing lures I made from my chicken's feathers in the same store as my woolies. But it might make sense to make other things out of recycled wool or other recycled materials.

Re: Is it better to have a large variety of items?
I can tell you from a buyer's perspective that I like having a selection at one store so that I can pay one shipping price for several items! I will often choose to buy from one store over another if they have, for example, a bow that matches an article of clothing I like...or an item for my ds as well as dd...
But, I agree with other posters that you should begin by excelling at a few things and then branch out when you are ready.

Re: Is it better to have a large variety of items?
I would start with a small variety to avoid risking too much initially. Later, once the business picks up, you can always expand.
