Charlie's Soap

Okay, as I understand it, it is okay to use Charlie's Soap, as long as I use bleach too?? I am so scared of my son getting those "burns"! I bought it before I read about people having problems with it, and would like to try it out.

For those that use bleach do you put it in just the rinse like it says, or for the whole cycle?

Thanks!

Darcy

Re: Charlie's Soap

i use Charlies and have for quite some time with no problem. I also use TTO, GSE and Lavender to get things clean. as for the bleach i only do it maybe 1x a month bc using it EVERY wash will wear/fade your diapers REALLY fast. when i use it i do my normal 2 prerinses, cold wash, hot wash (add about 1/8cup of bleach) then an extra rinse.

May I ask where you heard you need to add bleach?

Re: Charlie's Soap

ugh, this comment is in regards to that ridiculous "disclaimer" that old man sutherland made sarah of pinstripes and polkadots put up on her site.

NO DETERGENET disinfects!! NONE. he is saying that it needs bleach because he thinks that ANY detergent requires bleach, as he's an old man and can't imagine "yuckies" like diapers getting clean any other way.

please, by all means, try using charlies and add bleach occasionally if you feel it's necessary. we use charlie's exclusively and i only add a tablespoon of bleach every couple of months, or i always add a little bleach if he's been sick. we don't have any problems with our diapers.

Re: Charlie's Soap

Heather He also told me very specifically that his soap was not strong enough to clean diapers and that bleach was needed in order to get the diapers properly cleaned.
This is not ridiculous and for those parents whose children have been victims of these burns that statement would seriously be extremely disturbing to them.
These burns are serious and leave scars that last on the kids. My dd still has the scars over 4 yrs later. I KNOW how to wash laundry and NEVER EVER had an issue with any real washing products. Atsko and Charlies were developed by the same person and are exactly the same with the exception of 1 ingredient. Both soaps cause the same exact burn.

Allens is a great soap, never once in over 5 yrs have I heard of a burn. So if you want something natural go with them. Any store bought detergent will work wonderfully and most other natural detergents will work wonderfully. Just make sure they are not an oil based detergent if they are natural.
