Re: Do you pre-read library books?
Nope, not really. But as a librarian, married to a librarian, I feel like we're pretty familiar with most of the kids' books on the market.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
I scan through it, and make sure it's something that is good quaility. DD is only reading early readers right now, so our longer books are ones that I pick out. I haven't come across a lot of questionable content, but I have had to edit for grammar on several occasions.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
I totally flip through and pre-read books I get from the library! I like to make sure it's a good story to read to DS!

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
No, the only thing I shield my kids from is gore and I can pretty much tell from the cover.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
DS is 2, so I really only scan for Jesus-ie talk, or total mindlessness. Otherwise, I just edit as I go, or skip pages or make up a different story if I really fail.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
I read the first 2-3 pages to make sure it is something that my kids would most likely enjoy. If when reading it at home I don't end up liking it I just put the book up until we return it. If there were words I didn't like I'd modify them to ones I like for dd2 and then explain to dd1 (who can read) that we don't use those words in our house.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
Nope. With the amount that the kids read (and them getting books from the school library that I never actually see) I simply don't have the time to pre-read. When they were little I would just make up my own story if I didn't like the written story.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
I also mainly scan to make sure they are novels. the only book I have regretted was this winter book. Santa had some &%#*(# Somehow my subconscious mind lost that book, lol. Hopefully the library will buy a new book with the money.

Re: Do you pre-read library books?
Yes I pre-read, but primarily to determine whether or not the book is going to have me going insane on the 80000th read.
We were shopping at the thrift store, and I found what looked like might be a nice book about the coming of spring. It was actually about a dead bird who proved to be scientifically interesting and fun to taxidermy. |
