Question about Melatonin...

My 3 year old is a terrible sleeper. Goes to bed around 7-8pm, then typically wakes up around 3am and stays awake, fussing and crying and wanting someone to lay with him until about 5am, then up for good around 5:45am. He also recently has given up naps It is causing his dad and I to be exhausted and really cranky.

I've heard of given melatonin to children to help them for better sleep habits, and we have started giving it to DS at bedtime. It helps him to fall asleep at night, but that was never our problem to begin with. He's always gone to bed without much trouble. So my question is - when DS wakes up at 3am, can I give him the melatonin then to help him fall back asleep quicker? Or can it only be given in the evening?

It really only helps you to fall asleep, not stay asleep. So in your case I would try giving it to him when he wakes up at 3. Good Luck!

Thanks I just worry about it throwing off his sleep cycle (, like he has a sleep cycle) or something... but we're desperate, so it's worth a try!
