Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I lost close to 40lbs nursing my first. She was a super eater, tho, and put on a pound a week for a long time. my second... not so much.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I think that everyone is different- I weigh less now than I ever have before in my life, but I don't know whether to attribute that to breastfeeding or changing over my entire diet to "traditional" whole foods eating. I was 20 pounds less than my pre-pregnancy weight at 8 months pp. I have been exercising less, so I just don't know...

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I was back to prepregnancy weight in 8 weeks max, and kept losing slowly. I lost all of my butt!! Once he was mobile, I lost a bunch more from chasing him. When I got pregnant again, the combo of pregnancy, BFing, and running after him made me lose fast.

I don't think it was the BFing alone, but it helped. I was eating 2500+ calories a day when he was EBF to keep my weight somewhat stable.

Normally not. You usually lose some right away and that is why people think that. You normally hang onto 10 lbs while breastfeeding.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I've lost about 70 lbs since delivering my babies. I can't how much is from BFing, but that is 10lbs more than I gained with them. I am still bigger than I was before (or just rearranged a little I suppose) so I'm hoping when I'm done BFing I'll lose a few more.

eta: I think I was back at pre-pregnancy weight at about 10 weeks.

I haven't read all the responses, but I think it comes from genetics and individual metabolism. I dropped weight pretty easily while nursing, without any special effort. I would plateau about 10 lbs above prepreg weight, but then after awhile it would drop again. However, nursing did nothing for the flabby saggy belly :P My mom was the same way.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I gained 30 lbs while preggo... and now 4 months post partum I've lost 40 lbs... I KNOW it is breastfeeding related, but only because I had to go dairy free to continue to BF my daughter. I don't think I would have lost as much, as fast, had I not gone dairy free.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

BF'ing made me gain weight.

The initial pp period was no different for me, in terms of weight loss, from when I BF my dd and bottle fed my ds. I lost weight fairly quickly both times. However with BF'ing I've never been able to loose the last 5 lbs even after almost 2 years of BF'ing.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

With DD I was in a 0 at 3 months pp (also 22 at the time and working full time) but by 6 weeks pp was between a 0-3 (gained a little weight but most of my 0's still fit just a little more snugly). With DS he's 2 and I am now (since november) busting my butt exercising to loose weight, by one and a half months pp I was in a size 4. But added stress caring for my dad raising both of my kids as a single mother and finding out my license is suspended at one and a half months pp I gained a lot (about 50 lbs in 7 months). I always watch what I eat and try and eat healthy (but always have for the most part) because I struggle with my weight (I am 5'2", I have delicate features at a size 7 I wear a size 4-3/4 on my ring finger when I am at my normal a 3-4 I wear a 3-1/2 ring on my ring finger). I was a size 11-12 November 25th and am at 6-7 currently. I don't have a scale so I don't know my actual weight but I was 172 last summer and had gained more weight before I began my diet/exercise routine I would say I was near or at 180.

To summarize maybe it helps in the first 2 or 3 months but I feel after my supply is well established I begin gaining a little of maintaining that weight at that point.
