I'm amazed that grandparents would make these choices w/o consulting the parents!

Gee, I thought the "MOM" tattoo MIL got on dd while she was babysitting her was kind of sweet......

Seriously though, I'd be furious too if someone pierced my girls' ears (or son's, for that matter) without my permission. This thread made me think about the time my grandmother kept my oldest dd for a few days just before she started kindergarten. I went to pick her up and her bangs were cut, but she had hacked them, and they were SERIOUSLY crooked. I could only get so mad at my g'ma, as she's almost 80 - her intentions were good, anyway.

My mother cut my oldest ds hair for the first time one day when she was watching him. I was so po'd. But that's my mother, my mil is great, wouldn't even think of doing something like that without asking but my mom think she knows best. She didn't even save any hair!

If my MIL pierced my DD's ears without my permission I would call the police on her. I feel like it is assault to mutilate my daughter without my permission.

That's disrespectful. I am a grandmother. I buy stuff w/o permission. I would not make any bodily changes w/o permission. However, this happened to me several times when my girls were young. Haircuts, etc. Finally I just did not say anything to keep the peace, since I was making no progress. But I was so mad!! I could not stop it from happening w/o not allowing visits and I figured they needed a well meaning Grandmother more than hair. I think people forget that you are a grown woman and it's your kids. And you DO know what you are doing and YOU can raise your kids as you see fit. After all these years I still feel ticked! Good Luck. It's a battle I just could not win!
