Re: babysitting coop experience???

My local MOMS club has one I lead it for a year and a half, but things were set up for me by the previous leader. Her husband set up a spreadsheet in excel that was awesome, when you typed in the person's name and who they watched for and how many hours it automatically calculated the points. We did it on a point value . Each person who joined started out with 15 points....for each kid you watch you earn 1 pt an hour and if there was 2+ kids it's .5 per hr for the additional kid. So if you watched Sally's 2 kids for 1 hour you'd get 1.5 pts; if Sally had 3 kids you'd get 2 pts an hr.

We had monthly mandatory meetings/playgroup to discuss any issues and hosted it at each others homes. This way you see other's homes and see how they interact with kids and then you decide if you'd want them to watch your kid. It always worked out great for me and it is a great thing to do. I'm no longer in it because my youngest is now in preschool so I feel like I don't really need to have him sat and if I ever do need a sitter grandma is always willing.

I don't think I have any of the old documents otherwise I would forward them to you.

Best of luck getting it going!

Janel

thanks! this is just the info that i needed to get started!!! your spreadsheet sounds awesome!
just a few more questions: were you responsible for tracking everyone's points or did everyone track their own? did you ever have a problem with honesty, or would both parties report back to you? did members protest mandatory meetings, or was that a major expectation from the get-go? did you charge an upfront fee for becoming a member?
thank you again!

Love this site - very easy to set up, keeps track of all the co-op stuff.
