Question How do you find an OB?

I have gone to this one office, and so far so good but before I went, I looked up the dr's reviews and they are very mixed.
I only met the nurse practitioner, I am supposed to meet the Dr on Thursday 6/2.
I feel uneasy even though I haven't met her yet due to the reviews I have read, the fact that I need a C/S and she has been called careless really scares me.
I am really debating on going back to my old ob who delivered my dd and ds2, the office is an hour away and I am worried about when the foggy season gets here because i live in a valley we get very very thick fog where you can't see past half the hood of your car. I feel more comfortable with the old OB since I have known him since 05 and I really wish he had an office here in my city.
I know I should find a good dr here where I live but I am not sure how to go about finding one, I don't talk to many people that I feel comfortable to ask who their OB is kwim?

Re: How do you find an OB?

I actually found my ob/gyn randomly almost 10 years ago. I picked him out of the yellow pages and made an appointment. We clicked right away and I have just stayed there. I would just start calling offices and asking to meet with them.

Re: How do you find an OB?

I wonder if I can just meet with some dr's, or if I will have an office cost on top of that?
The dr I have right now, my pcp gave me the # but at the same time I am not too crazy about my own pcp, they aren't very organized there.

Re: How do you find an OB?

If you go to birthsurvey.org there are likely to be reviews of ob's and midwives in your area. Also you absolutely can meet with ob's beforehand it's called a consultation. You pretty much interview them. Most ob's are used to it, lots of moms do it. They should by charge you for a office visit to interview them, but when you call to schedule with the office it's ok to double check. This is a job interview for them, never let them make you feel that it is the other way around. Good luck :-)

I went to the hospital because I thought I was having a miscarriage but instead my uterus lining came out in one piece, long story. Anyways, that was the doctor that they reffered me to for my test results and we loved him. He works in a well known office with another great doctor. I looked up his credentials and was very happy.

My recommendation is to look around for word of mouth advice from others. But keep an open mind. Not everyone loves the same doctor and certain times and places in time will change that. People have different personalities and maybe they are having a bad day when they go to see that doctor and something just rubs them wrong..

When looking at reviews, remember that people are more likely to review when they've had a negative experience.
When you meet the doctor on Thursday and get an overall idea of what you think, you can always ask about the specific reviews. Do the reviews say she's lost paperwork? Or that she's careless during medical procedures?

That sounds scary! I agree some people just don't mesh well.

They say she messed up during their c/s. one girl says this dr cut her bladder, that really scared me.
This is the review, seeing it again freaks me out~

I CAN ONLY TRY TO HELP OTHERS AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE. SHE BUTCHERED ME. LITERALLY. THIS PERSON TIED OFF MY URETER, SLICED THROUGH MY BLADDER, AND I PEED THROUGH MY VAGINA FOR MONTHS UNTIL A SPECIALIST HAD TO DO MAJOR SURGERY ON ME. HE HAD TO FIX MY LEFT KIDNEY WHICH WAS COMPLETELY SUTURED OFF AND NON FUNCTIONAL AND SEW UP MY BLADDER AND VAGINA. MY LEFT KIDNEY IS SHOT. I WAS ONLY 36 YEARS OLD AND NOW MY SEX LIFE IS COMPLETELY OVER BECAUSE IT HURTS TO HAVE ANYTHING NEAR THE LOWER HALF OF MY BODY. I NEVER COULD PEE AGAIN NORMALLY. NOW I HAVE TO BEAR DOWN AND FORCE THE URINE OUT OF MY BLADDER BECAUSE IT WILL NOT COME OUT ON ITS OWN ANYMORE. THE NEXT STEP IS I WILL HAVE TO USE A CATHATER TO GET THE URINE OUT BECAUSE EVEN WHEN I BEAR DOWN IT HAS A HARD TIME COMING OUT. JUST THE LAST FEW YEARS SHE HAS BEEN SUED OVER 20 TIMES BY OTHER VICTIMS. MY ATTORNEY TRIED TO GET SOME JUSTICE BUT THE JURY DIDNT WANT TO SIDE WITH ME BECAUSE SHE IS A DOCTOR AND I AM AN ARTIST. MY HUSBAND AND I BROKE UP BECAUSE WE COULD NOT WEATHER THIS MUCH STRESS AND PAIN. SHE HAS RUINED MY LIFE. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HER. ACTUALLY I WOULD SUGGEST YOU RUN!!!!!!!I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE IS STILL PRACTICING IN FRESNO. I WAS JUST LOOKING HER UP TO SEE IF SHE WAS IN JAIL AND I SEE SHE STILL HAS A PRACTICE!!??? THIS IS REALLY INSANE. SHE IS A BUTCHER! AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A LIFE IN TATTERS.STAY SAFE AND FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR THAT ISNT A SADIST.
