Re: Would this upset you?
Yeah, I'd be upset if someone who DD was with for a few hours gave her meds without checking with us first.
As for the heatstroke, allergy meds really dry you up so you have to drink lots to keep hydrated. The Claritin could have made your DD feel sick if she wasn't drinking alot and was running around in the heat. |

Re: Would this upset you?
She didnt mean to upset you she was just trying to do the right thing in her mind but should have absoutely asked first, you never know if a kid may be allergic to something or have already had something for the day like you said and a interaction could have occured, however I wouldnt be THAT UPSET or drag it on, state to her how you felt and if she chooses to write you off and be upset with you so be it..at the end of the day you did what was best for your little one!

Re: Would this upset you?
Just a note, heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency, so I'm assuming the PPs meant to say heat exhaustion.
Also, I would be pretty PO'd if someone gave my kid meds without asking. I'm sure she was just trying to help, but it's totally not ok. Like PPs said, though, I would just let her know to ask you first, and then get over it. And always check to make sure the meds you're giving don't contraindicate each other. |

Re: Would this upset you?
Well, although I wouldn't medicate someone else's child, I wouldn't 'be upset here b/c it seems like your SIL was helping to watch your DD while you're at work and she probably felt "responsible" for her and felt like she was helping b/c she was sick. Esp. since your DD is fine, I'd use this as lesson to have clear instructions on what your preferences are for those who care for your children. I'm guilty myself and should probably give my kids' babysitter a clear list too, esp. for things I'm adamant about.
