Re: Clothes to fit newborns...
DS was 9 lbs 3 oz, and 22 inches when he was born, and he fit into most newborn stuff for the first week.
So much depends on the shape of the baby, not just their weight...If you aren't the type that needs to be over-prepared (like me ) then you could probably just get a few outfits in each size. After you figure out what fits them best, you can end Daddy out for more outfits.

Newborn clothes swallowed my DD until she was over 7 lbs. She needed preemie size which I had absolutely none of.

Re: Clothes to fit newborns...
I did buy a few nb/preemie outfits, not a whole lot, maybe 4 outfits each size. They didn't wear them long. My son wore NB for a few weeks and he was 8lb 8oz lol

Re: Clothes to fit newborns...
The Under 7lb size fit my newborns great. They were born at 7lb7oz and 7lb3oz. I think they fit DS for about 2 weeks and DD for about a month.
Newborn clothes were big for the first couple weeks, and 0-3 didn't really fit until about 6-8 weeks old.

Re: Clothes to fit newborns...
My four were
6.0 6.5 7.11 7.5 All but my 7.11 fit under 7 pound clothes for the first several weeks. I especially like the undershirts in that size because I hate a huge undershirt under their regular shirt. We stayed in 0-3 clothes FOREVER with my first two. My younger and bigger two zoomed out of that size fast. My youngest was the 7.5 her newborn clothes were HUGE on her but now at 21/2 months she is already wearing some 6 MONTH clothes!!! My biggest boy at 7.11 was wearing 18 month clothes at 6 months old - DD looks to be tracking the same.

Re: Clothes to fit newborns...
I bought 1-2 outfits not knowing and it was a waste. After 2-3 weeks, he was out of it. But, 0-3 and if you need it, you can always go back and buy newborn. Its ok clothes are a bit big - they grow quickly.

My DD was almost 10lbs at birth (yeah, I know, lol) and never wore newborn diapers, skipped right to size one.
I crammed her into newborn clothes for a couple weeks. Looking back on it, I totally had her in clothes that were too small but didn't realize it at the time.

Re: Clothes to fit newborns...
In the nb/0-3 sizes I think for most things (esp sleep & plays) the length is much more important than weight. My ds was 8lb 14 oz at birth (then down to 7-7 & it took 3 weeks to get back up to his birthweight), but he was a shorty. He was 19 inches long and although he could fit by weight in the 0-3 was absolutely swimming in them. I liked the nb size for the 1st month or so. I didn't have to buy much though bc he has nephews a year older who are twin boys & we got their hand me downs.
