puffy eyes- allergies?

two of my sons have puffy eyes, now one of them has some yellow stuff coming out of his eyes as well. they both seemed to have them flare up when they went in the backyard this morning. the pediatrician told me to try zyrtec, but it hasn't worked today yet. i don't know anything about allergies, but it really worries me, especially in my 3 year old. when he woke up from his nap his eyes were puffy and almost stuck together.

how do i know if it's something more serious than an allergy? when is it more dangerous or an infection? i didn't ask enough questions of my pediatrician.

Yellow stuff typically means an infection. It is possible that it started with an allergic reaction. Try warm compresses a few times a day, wipe out the gunk when you can, and get them in to see the doc.

my four year old had this so we brought her in, and it was a really bad sinus infection. She was on an antibiotic for ten days, and it did clear up. She does usually have puffy/watery eyes due to allergies-but the 'snotty' ooze was something new so that's why we brought her in.
