Constipated baby :(

My son has had his first solids reaction. I was worried that the Germans do not separate and offer many single first fews. SO I ran him through what they had, and then tried a veggie mix.

His butt exploded with rash and he is totally constipated. His poop is super thick and he can only get a tiny bit out at a time.

Any suggestion how I can help him.

I think I am going to start making my own foods. I just have to figure out how, so that I con introduce them 1 by 1. All I know is he is reacting to spinach, leeks, or potatoes.

Hmmm....that is odd - I want to say American babies have a hard time with leeks - as I know a few mamas that have introduced them and then had problems. Of course with all the recent hubbabalo my first thought was e-coli but that is really unlikely.

The best thing I have done is prune juice or just get a few plums and juice them...worked everytime for my kiddos.

The british don't have many single servings either, all mixed stuff.

Re: Constipated baby :(

We had the same issue with some of the German baby foods too. I noticed that their stage 1 food (4 months) tended to be a lot thicker than the American foods. And a lot had mixtures with potatoes. I agree with MeCo- try a little prune juice to get things flowing again.

Oatmeal, peaches, pears and prunes.

Making your own food is not a big deal. Cook the food and mash it with a fork or blender or food processor. Add the amount of water you want to make it the consistency you want.

I can't cook much at all and I did my own baby food. Even took it to daycare. Just steam and mash. I froze mine in ice cube trays.

If juice doesn't help I'd look for the OTC glycerine suppositories
