picky DH arg!

I have been able to get bountiful baskets in our area (a fresh produce coop) for the past couple of weeks. We got some cabbage which I had no idea what to do with so I went recipe hunting on the internet. I am making a skillet/hash right now with hashbrowns cabbage and venison (I would use ham but we don't have any) and dh just told me he doesn't like cabbage. GR! We always make the kids try new things no matter what, and while he will probably eat a little bit it really frustrates me for him to say that while I am making it. I honestly didn't remember he didn't like cabbage as well...I usually don't get it! I was all excited to whip up a good meal out of no where and now I feel like I've been shot down. what would you do?

Pickle it for Home made crout
You can make Home made Kimchi
It can be Dehydrated and Ground into powder
You can use it for Cabbage Rolls
You can use it in Egg Rolls/stir fry/ SOUP

I'd cook the meal I had already started and serve it. He knows where the cereal and PBJ are kept.

That's exactly what I'd do! My DH is a spoiled brat about food, and IDK where he got it. His mama was a home cook, eat it or starve type and didn't always buy brand names but he throws a tantrum if I cook something with off brand or something he doesn't love.
MEN! I say we all REVOLT and just cook whatever we feel like w/o worrying about their "feelings" over it.
Also, great job coming up with a healthy meal for your kids mama! I know its not always easy!

An he's not allowed to get it until after the kids have eaten "real" dinner!

Thanks gals. That's what I did...still served it as planned and told him he could make himself a sandwhich if he wanted to. He "tried" it but picked most of the cabbage out...what a turd. I can't believe a grown man can do that in front of our kids when he is supposed to be an example for them. I eat stuff I don't like for them to show them they need to try new things and he can't muster up to eat like 1/4 cup of cabbage that is mixed in with other things. He ended up making himself a sandwich an hour later before he went to work. Now I have 3 more heads of cabbage that I won't be able to use though. Its pointless for me to use it because dh always takes leftovers for his work lunches so it would just be one more thing that sits in the fridge.

Re: picky DH arg!

They had a guy demoing the vita mix at costco the other day and threw some cabbage in the smoothies he was making. They were so yummy! Just an idea.

Re: picky DH arg!

No offense, but I don't like cooked cabbage either. I like it in a salad, and I'll also eat it lightly stir fried.. but sour krout, kimshi, hash, etc...

If I make something like that that my DH doesn't like, he just picks out what he doesn't like and I try to remember next time.

God bless!

Re: picky DH arg!

My favorite cabbage recipe... (it doesn't have a name yet) and the DH LOVES it!

Slice up a polish sausage
Cut up onions
Add a wee wee bit of oil
Saute in a big pan

Slice some potatoes (any kind, I like red, and how much you determine by how many you want to eat/make)
Boil in a separate pot until your sausage is browned
Drain water, add to skillet your meat is in to cook the rest of the way
(stir to coat with the yummy oil off of the sausage - this isn't healthy but yummy and fast)

Cut up the cabbage into almost shredded strips, you can use up to 1/2 head of cabbage
Throw into the big pan with everything else
Add a good amount of garlic salt and SMOKED PAPRIKA (not sweet/regular) and (if you like heat) black pepper and/or red pepper flakes.

Stir until cabbage is just wilted. Too much and it gets soggy and sour, just enough to keep it sweet but not too crunchy.

Serve in bowls.
