Re: how do you know when stay dry is the best?
My dd had a butt-crack problem for a while, but I don't believe it was diaper related. For her, I think it was food related. I started using a swipe of CJ's butter or Vaseline every diaper change in her crack and it seemed to heal up. I still use it if I start to see some redness.
A sore butt crack can develop yeast pretty easily as well...if I'm ever not sure I just use the CJ's yeast formula in her crack just to be safe. Yeast in the butt crack would make peeing and pooping really sting and would make baby upset when they are wet or poopy.

He is ebf right now yes. I would need to use a liner if I did zinc oxide cream correct?

No zinc oxide will wash out. The trouble ingredient is fish oil; that stuff is both stinky and sticky.

I did put him in a sposie for a while earlier today...(I'm really hoping I don't have to give up PFs and flats!)

Re: how do you know when stay dry is the best?
I thought my daughter needed stay dry when we switched from disposables, since her skin wasn't used to the wetness. Turns out she was sensitive to PUL. I use mostly bamboo now with wool soakers. Made a huge difference. Now she gets red if I use disposables, which NEVER happened when she was in them full-time. I also use CJ's butter at night and sometimes during the day. A little bit of a barrier does help, like Melanie said!
ETA- wet cotton certainly irritates my daughter more than wet bamboo or fleece. OBF is my fave diaper material. |
