Out of pocket cost with no insurance

I am trying to budget money to continue on our TTC journey. It has been slow up to this point because we do not have any kind of infertility insurance so everything has to be out of pocket. The only thing covered is diagnostic tests ( like bloodwork, u/s for polycycstic ovaries, provera to bring on period to clear me out for medical reasons) but after this, I will have to pay for everything.

Since we miraculously concieved our DS after 7 years TTC, I think we will start off with low technology methods this time around. I was wondering if anyone knew what the OOP cost were for a things like:

Clomid - hoping to start with this only for a few cycles.
U/S - for follicle size? I assume the DR would want to do them. They did not the last time I took CLomid but that was 6-7 years ago.
Bloodwork - like CD 3 test and post O tests
Doctor visits- I am just seeing my regular OB right now

Anything else you know I might need? Atleast for now, I want to just try CLomid and maybe the progesteron suppositories. I did them once before for a few months and although I did not concieve on them, I know that it is the easiest and cheapest place to start.

Thanks in advance. Any responses will be help. I know that the prices probably vary for some things because of location but I am trying to get a rough idea so that I can make sure I have the money to start tackling this problem!!

It will depend from dr to dr, but clomid is super cheap. Like 10 bucks per perscription, at least for the generic version. Not sure how much the progesterone is, think I paid about 70 or so per bottle The U/S I got while ttc were about 250 a pop. HTH mama, and lot's of baby dust to you

Re: Out of pocket cost with no insurance

Thanks, it helps! Honestly, when we were pregnant with DS, I had rockin insurance and did not even have a copay or anything so I really have no clue what things cost without it!

What about bloodwork? Like if they take 4 vials to run 6 tests, is the charge by how much blood or which tests? If I went and got one vial and one test each time, would it be less?

It widely varies by doctor, so if you have an RE, you may want to just call and ask what they charge for things. Going out of pocket a lot of places will give you a discount.

At my clinic, the ultrasounds were $200/each. IUI was $400 per cycle.

My blood work was covered so I'm not sure. But I bet the RE deals with this all the time, they probably have a list made for all the standard type stuff.

Re: Out of pocket cost with no insurance

Hey mama, there's a mama on here selling an almost complete Conception Kit for $75. It's supposed to be like in home insemination- you have DH wear a condom during sex, put the semen into a cervical cup and then put the cup over your cervix. This bypasses the vaginas acidic environment and puts the sperm much closer where they need to be. Supposed to work great in conjuction with Clomid. I was thinking about getting it but we're still early in our TTC adventure and DH won't go for the condoms. Maybe you've looked into something like this but for what she's selling it for it may be a nice low cost way to help you guys. PM me if you'd like her name.

I hope your journey is short and sweet, and cheap! Good luck mama!

Re: Out of pocket cost with no insurance

Oh, I don't know much about OOP costs but I saw an RE for a diferent issue and they require a $200 deposit for all OOP patients that are being seen for fertility issues. I think that may be semi common now too and I bet they'll have a list like Nicole said. You def. wouldn't be the first self pay patient unfortunately.
