Pure Fitness for Women facebook post
Here is the facebook post about a breastfeeding mom, write by pure fitness for women in Texas (copied and pasted) I will also include the link:
"Dear members, we understand a member was upset over a breast feeding issue today. We wish to clarify. Today we had a member breast feed her child in the kids club, we asked her to please do so in a more private location pointing out we have thousands of members' children that do not understand. At that age it is the discretion of the parent to determine if at a kids club age the child should learn about the benefits and reasons for breast feeding. We feel that children should not be exposed to these events without every parent being ok with their child being exposed to the action. As a private club it is determined this should be done in a private location. Further, we do feel a member being exposed to children is inappropriate. As women we fully support breast feeding, as adults we protect children as a whole, and as a business have a corporate responsibility to all members and their children. We realize and apologize any discomfort the member may have felt. We simply ask you to understand we have many children we must think of, even at the expense of a single member being asked to show some discretion. We apologize further if this forced an emotional reaction for anyone, we as always, try to do what is best for the whole of our membership." http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Pur...96012657103589 . |

But it's TOTALLY okay for the kids to see women bouncing around in their spandex flaunting their bodies and probably revealing more boob than a nursing mom? Okay, I have no idea if it's really like that. My gym is a community center so tons of seniors. Boy, can you imagine what kind of reaction I would get? Ha!!
It just irritates me that our "modern" and "enlightened" society has got it all backwards! A friend of mine from HS posted on FB complaining about a lady bringing an infant to the movie "Horrible Bosses" and GASP...breastfeeding!!! I'm just wondering how many references to women's breasts the movie made and NONE of them would have had anything to do with breastfeeding! And many of the comments were "gross" and "wrong on so many levels". I'm sure he wouldn't have mentioned it if the baby had been fed by a bottle.

Re: Pure Fitness for Women facebook post
DH and I got dirty looks from a stranger in a restaurant just for having our baby with us. It's a family restaurant and she was sending dirty looks long before I started BFing at the table. I almost whipped the whole boob out just to annoy her, but I took the high road instead and just ignored her. Where did this "everyone else is more important than an infant's needs" idea in our society come from? It's about that baby's right to eat, plain and simple.
