How much oatmeal do I need to eat??
I'm pumping to help feed my sisters baby right now so I'm trying to increase my milk supply. I tried fenugreek and mothers milk tea but I can't continue with them...Mostly because I can't afford to keep buying them and my sister won't pay for it. So I decided I had to eat breakfast anyway so I might as well make it oatmeal to help my supply. The problem is that I HATE oatmeal, so I'm forcing myself to eat it. I want' to make sure I'm getting enough to help tho or it's pointless. Today I made 3/4 cup but I was only able to eat about half of it. So about how much a day do I need?

Re: How much oatmeal do I need to eat??
I'm not sure how much it takes to boost the milk supply... but I've been eating one or two bowls a day for about a year and it seems to help.
Here are some things I put in oatmeal to make it more palatable (not all at once!! )Half and half Brown sugar Honey Craisins Raisins Nuts Sunflower seeds Coconut Cinnamon Allspice Nutmeg Fresh fruit Cooked apples Hope you find a way to make it easier to eat! I wonder if granola would have the same benefits... or oatmeal cookies... or oatmeal pancakes... I need to research this. I'm also a little curious why your sister won't help you buy the supplements.

Re: How much oatmeal do I need to eat??
google lactation cookies
As a side note, personallyl, I never saw a supply increase from oats. Others have, so it's worth a shot! But that's my own experience.

Fennel has always worked painful wonders for me. It's cheap, and in my experience, extremely effective!

Re: How much oatmeal do I need to eat??
Thanks for the suggestions I'll try some of the add ins to see if it helps and I'll be trying the lactation cookies
Me too! If I was doing it for just my sister I would stop because of the way she is sometimes about it. But its not for her it's for my niece so I'll continue to do it for as long as I can I guess.

Try quinoa instead of oatmeal. It's more like rice but has protein and being a grain it should help supply. You can google lots of recipes. And it doesn't have to just be breakfast!

Re: How much oatmeal do I need to eat??
Mmmmmm...... add toasted nuts (pecans are great) and frozen blueberries. Butter will also help the taste!

Re: How much oatmeal do I need to eat??
DS eats oatmeal every morning with maple syrup, cinnamon, and a splash of soymilk. It tastes like a cookie, but it doesn't boost his milk supply

Try searching online for "Amish baked oatmeal". I make it with craisins, and it's delish. Have you made lactation cookies?
