21 month old, part-time EC'd since birth, "forgot" how to poop
I have a 21-month-old DS who I have EC'd part-time since he was about six weeks old. I absolutely can NOT read my kid's signals at all and so we've only done EC on timing. Thusly, my catch rate has never been 100%, or even anywhere close. In the past month or so, though, I've gotten a few more poop catches than I'm used to and a lot more pee catches than I'm used to.
But in the past few days, the poop rate has gone to zero. I KNOW he needs to poop b/c he has a "pattern" of sorts of a day where he has 3-4 small poops within several hours, then he'll skip a couple of days, then have 3-4 again. So a while after I notice that first poop, I'll offer the potty again, and he'll usually squeeze out some pee, but no poop. Then about half an hour after I give up and put his diaper back on, he is stinky. ![]() With the way our pee catches have picked up (he has been dry at night for well over a week now, even when waking multiple times needing a sip of water), I think that he could be free of diapers in just a few months, if it weren't for these poop issues we're having now. Any helpful thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, Andrea |

How are things going now?
Is he resisting stubbornly or just not interested in pooping while on the potty?

We're about half and half now w/ poops in the diaper/pull-up versus in the potty. If he weren't so random w/ the silly things then we'd have a higher catch rate, I think, lol. But I do ask him to at least "try" to poop most times when I take him to pee and he'll grunt a little, lol.

Maybe try increasing his fiber so he poops more often and you get to practice pooping in the potty with him more? Try giving more oatmeal, flaxseed, fruit and vegetables...?

hmmm. well it sounds like things are getting better anyway! Just keep doing what you're doing and he'll get there.

ooh! exciting!
I'm sure the tired phase will pass once you're in the second trimester
