Re: Best week for 2nd tri fetal anatomy scan?
Both times my scan was at 20 weeks and no earlier. N needed another at 24 weeks because they didn't get any views of his spine. I'll be 21 weeks next week with my appointment at a new OB. I guess I'll see how quickly they hurry me in for an u/s.

Re: Best week for 2nd tri fetal anatomy scan?
Thank you so much for the replies! Hmmm, I'm still debating whether or not to call them back. I can definitely wait a little longer if that's preferable. Decisions, decisions...I guess I'm off to google the differences between a scan done at 19 weeks and one done at 21 weeks. Ugh, I can't quit obsessing over (possibly) minor details, ack!!

I'm not sure if there is something more or less you can see at certain weeks but I was told they like to do them between 18-20w because once they get bigger its harder to get the measurements!

Re: Best week for 2nd tri fetal anatomy scan?
18-22 weeks is ideal. Before 18 and it's hard to see certain things like the kidneys. After 22 the baby's getting bigger, bones are harder (can't see through them as well....I don't mean they are transparent but the harder they get they make shadows over anatomy you need to visualize), and scanning is more difficult.
20 weeks is the most ideal but there is a range because all babies develop differently, some may be ready to go at 18 with everything mature enough to see and others not until 22. Good luck OP, I'm sure at 19 weeks you'll be good to go.....and if not they will just schedule another US to get another look at what they couldn't see the first time.

Re: Best week for 2nd tri fetal anatomy scan?
I would think you are fine with that timing. 19/20 IMO is probably best.
For this one I went at 18 weeks as per ob, said I could go ahead and make apt. Meanwhile tech was not pleased that I had come in "so early" according to her. We couldn't make out sex clearly (looks like a boy- we did private gender screen later). She didn't mention other problems seeing organs etc though.

Re: Best week for 2nd tri fetal anatomy scan?
I was told to book between 18-20 weeks. When I called to book the appointment they told me it is best to do it at 20 weeks and not before. The way the timing worked out I was 19 weeks 5 days and they got to see everything they needed to clearly.
