I run an empty hot wash with bleach a couple times a month or so. We have a front loader. I dont know what this "garbage bin" thing is that has been mentioned though

I 'strip' mine with a little dawn and baking soad about every 3 months. I scrub it with a veggie. brush (that I just use for that and to strip dipes, of course LOL) and then just run it through a cycle with nothing in it using super hot water.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions and ideas!

I'll share them with her and hope that they don't scare her away from CDing.

At least I'll be able to reassure her that she won't have to clean her washer EVERY time

I'll admit though, I only clean my washer once a month though
I heard the same from a good friend. Who also cloth diapers. She runs a bleach load once a month, and looking at my washer, I decided it's probably a good idea. Just to get the fabric softener residue cleaned up, as it's not good for dipes!

I dont do it. I thought about it but just figured that since I always use hot water and never use fabric softener or anything like that I didn't need to. I also spray all my diapers before putting them in the wash so I doubt there's much garbage left.

I'm thinking of trying my borax/dr bronners mix I make for scrubbing the tub. Just scrub with a washcloth and a hot Dawn wash after. Maybe vinegar for the rinse to get any residue.

Thanks for getting me thinking!

I wish I knew. I've never used a front loader, so I'm not sure how you'd adjust this for use with one. I'd guess add the baking soda at the time you'd normally add detergent, and put the vinegar in the bleach dispenser, but just a guess.
