Re: help me understand: diapers with holes

You know I never had holes in my diapers until I started using my mom's old TL. It washes the heck out of my diapers, but since using it I have gotten little tear spots in a bunch of my prefolds.

I thought maybe it was bleach, but it was too instant. Like put them in with no holes and when I take them out they have little tear marks.

LOL - I'm still not going back to my FL for cloth - I love watching all the water fill up in my mom's TL. It makes me so happy.

Re: help me understand: diapers with holes

I have had my BGE for probably 2 years - no holes

I have top loader (cheapo one too)
Dry on low (used to hang dry often but the BGE really don't hang dry well in my humid climate)
Use Tide
No bleach (or maybe 2 twice the whole time I have owned them)
I use Ecover to keep them soft
My wahser only does a hot wash and then cold rinses...so they don't get a LOT of hot water.
Don't know how all that factors in??

What kind of detergent do you use? Because there are a lot of people saying that using RnG causes holes, because it lacks an ingredent that protects the diapers from clorine in the water. If you don't use it I guess this means nothing to you.

Cotton wears out faster as others have mentioned. Also, if you are washing every 3rd day, it could be that the ammonia is eating away at the fibers while sitting. I've also heard that letting your diapers soak for long periods of time in RNG and other detergents will cause holes.

Also curious about detergents and possibly pvc dryer ball use.
