I made a blog post about five pots and pans that I could live with. It's not a set, just five pieces that I think are the most useful. I can't link it here but if you go to my blog search pots, or click on the kitchen label. Good luck!

Re: Desperately Need Pots and Pans - What to look for?

Chiming in, not sure if this was mentioned, but I would check out local Goodwill or Salvation Army stores and secondhand shops. You can get great things at super-cheap prices, some of them barely used. It saves you money and keeps things out of landfills.

I would maybe even try freecycle.

And we have a hard anodized set from Bed, Bath & Beyond (I think the brand is Emeril's line, but I'm sure all are similar) that we got 6 years ago it's still going strong. Love that stuff. Definitely, around Black Friday, there will be tons of sales if you can get by till then on something from freecycle or Goodwill.

i buy one piece at a time...like a big saute pan, then a stock pot, then a smaller pot. We only use stainless steel..because I don't want teflon running through my blood!

Or you could invest also in a cast iron pan, those will last forever, and they're awesome!!! Maybe 25-30 for a decent one at walmart!
