Re: Read this book and postpone your return of fertility

I didn't read it but it works for me. I had to go a long block to get AF back for my oldest at 13 months. I got it back the second time at 13 months too. I was nursing more than i was with my oldest but I had a long block at night where i wasn't. I got it back earlier (9 months) for my 3rd because she slept more consistently then my other kids at the same age. The more you nurse the less likely it will come back early. If you nurse very frequently it will probably hold it off for a while. If you have a long block without nursing or make a sudden change it is more likely to come back. Of course some people get it back early despite nursing around the clock without pacifiers and the like and some don't nurse much at all with a toddler and want it back but it doesn't come.

Re: Read this book and postpone your return of fertility

Kept mine at bay until 12 months, basically following the method in the book (from highlights that I've seen). I was away from her for 8 hours or so a few days in a row..then it came back, but erratically since she was still nursing quite a lot.

This basically only works for moms that are always with their children, though. From what I understand, pumping is not as effective as breastfeeding in preventing the return of ovulation.

I'm always with my TWO nursing children, cosleep, BW, etc. Didn't matter this time around. Grrr.

Also, avoid bottles, pacifiers, etc., let baby nurse as frequently as they like, pacify baby at the breast, and pretty much keep baby with you at all times.

Does it basically encourage demand feeding to prevent AF? It seems like all my friends who have done more scheduled feedings have return of AF. I'm at 9 months PP and no signs of AF (Yay!) but we do on demand feeding, co-sleeping, co-bedding, BWing and I'm a SAHM. I figure there are probably several variables that play a part, right?

I did everything they recommend with all 4 of my lo's and got af at about a year with the first 3 and 4 months with the 4!! There are no guarantees and I wouldn't rely on bfing alone for birth control.
It might be the answer for some women, some of the time, but def not all women all the time. Kwim?

I do the same and don't get AF back forEVER (2 years!!). I actually WANT my cycles earlier to space my kids closer but it doesn't happen naturally for me. My friends who schedule get their cycle back sooner too.
