Milk donation woes

I've been fighting an oversupply for five weeks now, even without pumping and just letting down into a bottle, it yields me 3-4oz. This is really a mixed blessing.

I have over a thousand ounces frozen, and closer to 45oz of colostrum(20oz was pre-birth).

I am out of room. We have no ice, nothing else can be frozen, it's all milk. I've been trying desperately to find a recipient, with no luck yet. I can't bring myself to dump any of this milk . My older daughter drinks some, and my new LO only nurses. What else can I do with this milk? There are no milk banks around, and our local hospitals do not take it.

I've posted on milkshare, and humanmilk4humanbabies, am I missing any other possible connections?

Welcome baby Edeltraud! 27-7-2011 Von meinem iPhone gesendet.

Re: Milk donation woes

Unreal!! I can't believe no one is taking you up on it!

I posted on my FB that I was donating to the milk bank and within an hour I had three of my own friends ask if I would give them milk. I've already given to one, and will likely give to the other two as well.

Is there no one you know that may benefit? Maybe some FFers or those with low supply?

Congrats on your newbie!!

Re: Milk donation woes

Eats on Feets is another FB group (it's what my local one is called). I don't really understand the difference between the two groups but I think they were once the same group.

There's also Only the Breast for donating or selling.

Another way I found a recipient was by posting on my local AP/homeschooling group. You could also call a midwife or doula and ask if they know anyone who needs it.

It took me a while to make a connection with my current recipient; I was a little frustrated that nobody was responding at first too.

Re: Milk donation woes

I second the idea of checking with a MW/doula/AP group. I had a TON of suggestions from there.

Re: Milk donation woes

You may also try contacting your localmLe Leche League. They may know of a family in need of milk.
It is super thoughtful of you to think of giving your extra to someone in need.

Re: Milk donation woes

Where are you located at? We receive donor milk and your milk would be such a blessing to some baby!! Maybe a mama on here could use it. We found our donors through milkshare.com.

If you still have it, I would try contacting a midwife or lactation consultant in your area. I found the family I donate to through a friend who works at a midwifery. I am able to
donate to the same family twice! We had 2 babies right about the same time 4 years apart. It's pretty awesome!
