Do you remember feeling tons of baby kicks when you were pregnant? Well, when you walked around and dd stuff, baby was rocking and rolling around inside you and sleeping away. When you sat or laid down, baby would soon wake up and start to move around. Guess what? At night, you weren't moving much so baby was awake. Baby's routine is to be awake at night and asleep during the day! That doesn't change magically just becase baby exited your uterus. It takes a while. It will most likely change within 2-3 more weeks as baby becomes more attuned to light/ dark cycles and the excitement of the day tuckers him/her out.
There's a reason they say to nap when baby naps. Don't expect to sleep at night. 2 hours in a row is all I usually get for the first year. It's normal. Babies need to eat frequently since breastmilk is digested quickly, their stomaches are tiny and they are growing like weeds! As soon as DH gets home, I pass baby off to him and have a nap. Whenever baby is napping, I try to nap. On weekends, I have extra long naps, After a while, you will be able to figure out a better routine for getting enough sleep, and as baby grows. My DD is 11 months though and I still try to nap during the afternoon a few times a week. |

Oh, and yes, for the first couple of weeks, I would wake my babies if they slept more than two hours to nurse. I woukd get too engorged if I didn't. After that, I would wake baby to nurse if she/he slept more than 3-4 hours, mostly because I would start to feel uncomfortable. My babies would almost always go right back to sleep after nursing, so it wasn't a problem.

Re: Wake A Sleeping Baby?
my second had his days and nights mixed up and our ped suggested leaving the lights on at night for two nights to help get his arcaedic rhythm back on track and it worked. We also tried to wake him up during the day.. like bathe ect... things that would def wake him up
Hope he gets it straightened out mama!

Re: Wake A Sleeping Baby?
We wake ours every 2.5-3 hours during the day and be sure they get a full meal, not a snack. It can be tough to get them awake and keep them awake to eat though so I really worked at it. I did their last "day" feeding right before I went to bed at 10. All 3 of mine, including the preemie, slept until 2-3am without waking on their own to sleep pretty much from birth. All 3 STTN until 6am without eating by 10 weeks. GL mama!
