Solids, sort of

My 9-month old loves eating o's cereal (we buy the Morning O's from Whole Foods) and Mum Mums, but gags on chunky purees. I'm thinking it's easier because those foods just melt in his mouth. We've also done some small pieces of steamed sweet potato and he eats a few and loses interest. He just wants the o's all the time.

What do I try next, smooth purees? More solids? I'm confused. Anyone BTDT?

Re: Solids, sort of

Hmm... I think maybe the chunks surprises him since some of it is smooth. He starts out more like "drinking" the chunky purees, but that technique doesn't work if there are chunks! Maybe offer purees separate from the chunks. You could offer VERY soft tiny pieces of apples, carrots, bananas, etc. And purees of other things like broccoli, beans, etc. ???

My DD also did better on thick purees. She preferred them thicker. For instance - imagine the store bought food - add some cereal until it's more like a paste. But as it was - if you puree your own food and don't add water it's thicker anyway.
